Probably not. It's a pretty small vehicle and does not suit my needs.

I wanted to check out the site even though I'm not interested in the car but it seems everybody here is worried about the earth ending.

Agreed. Midsize cars do not suit everyone's needs; only probably ~90% of the population.

Yeah. Pfft! All of these crazy people! I mean, what's really wrong with the Earth ending anyway?!

    I'm with you.

I'm hitching a ride with the Vogons soon.:scared:

I haven't heard really good Vogon poetry lately.

Welcome, Jimmie! Expect a little bit of a reaction after a comment like that. People here pretty well like the Prius, as you may have gathered by now :)

I like it too. Mine replaced a much larger station wagon, but it is nearly as big on the inside and nearly as versatile. The classic Prius, 4 or 5 model years ago was a compact car, but the current version is mid-size. When I went for a test drive, my wife was saying "it's too small," until she got inside. She was sold immediately.

    Hi Jimmie,

Like many people out there, you are simply misinformed about the Prius (e.g., the 2004-present models are midsize with a lot of interior room) and those who choose to drive one (I cut down a tree last summer!). Read some of the posts and ask questions and I think your opinions of the Prius and its owners may change.

Also, if you spend too much time in the politics forum, you'll get a pretty skewed idea of what Prius owners are like. :)

It is a free country, so you have the freedom to choose what you want to drive. One thing I guarantee you...the earth is not going to end in your lifetime. Enjoy browsing the forum and feel free to ask some technical questions.

Well, I guess technically the earth can never end in one's lifetime. That is, a force so tremendous as to destroy the earth would kill everything on it before the earth could actually be destroyed. ;)

See Jimmie, we're not all doom and gloom around here!

Well, my truck is paid for and I don't want payments for awhile. it snows a lot up here in the winter and it makes it a lot easier to get places with 4x4. I also like to do some moderate trail riding in the summer months with my truck and some friends.

I own a midsize truck and it's treated me very well. I'm even going to great lengths to even throw a new engine or transmission in it if those ever fail.

I know there is people out there that drive large SUV's for just themselves and I think thats stupid. But, It is America and if they want to drive it then so be it. atleast it's not me in that thing. I always view trucks as the working class. Whether it's from daily driving to hauling a boat and the family to the lake over a weekend.

I care for the environment as much as everyone here does but I'm no extremist.

I think the world still has a lot of time left, but if Jimmie's right, at least I get to spend my final days driving my mighty awesome car! Maybe I'll be at the movies, whille Jimmie's home watching TV because he spent all his money on gasoline. Perhaps I'll be home while he's still at the gas station, fillling up, yet again. Maybe I'll...well, that's all I've got...
    :boink:
I have to say, having only had mine for three days, I am very impressed with how big it is - it is a roomy car. Nearly every friend I have shown it to has said, "Wow, this is much bigger than I thought it would be." The first time I got in one, I was surprised - there is more room in it than my last car had.
    :boink:
But Jimmy, to each his own. A car is a very personal choice. No matter what you drive, I hope you like it as much as we all like our Priuses (is that the proper plural of Prius?).
    :boink:----> so funny to me

By the way, try not to stereotype, if you can. I wish people could do that less. I'm guilty of doing that myself, at times (us and them, lumping a guy into some category based on one dimension you've seen). Concern for our environment and some sense of responsibility do not equal extremism. Trying to be a good citizen who shares this good world with all others on it is not extremism. I'm glad you care about the environment, Jimmie. I agree with you 100% - this is America and you should buy the car you want. This land is your home, too. We're all sharing it. Just try your best to be a good steward of it. Waste as little as you can. We are all going to have to find ways to do that because our resources are not unlimited.

Trust me on this one - it may not be your cup of tea, but the Prius is a technological marvel, no matter what your opinion is about the environment. One of the things that makes humanity so remarkable is our ability to create and grow and invent. This car is a product of that spirit of ingenuity, as is your truck in a lot of ways (maybe the truck you want can pull a plane, like that one on the tube). In any event, I'm glad there are people in the world who still say, "What if we did this?" and "How can we make this better? and "How can we improve our world?"

As for as me, a unique individual with my own passions and priorities (not some "extremist"), I bought this car out of a desire to save money, be less wasteful as an individual, and to give less to those who take more than their share of our resources and give nothing back. These are personal choices & opinions.

As an American, I have power. It may seem incremental, but citizens of many other countries do not even have that much. I can vote with my dollar and for or against my leaders. I can speak out when I don't like the way things are going and when I do, it is my right thanks to our forefathers (some of those "What if? people). If I have a different view, it doesn't mean I'm automatically an "extremist." And guess what? As an American, I am going to give the absolute LEAST amount of MY money to greedy, soul sucking dudes I don't like! It's one of the best things about being American! I can even scream out, "I hope you all go broke and out of business, scumbags!" Anyone want to join me? Try it:

"I HOPE YOU ALL GO BROKE AND OUT OF BUSINESS, SCUMBAGS!!"

Jimmie, you see your desired truck as a representation of yourself in some ways - maybe a good, working class man, who lives up to his responsibilities and takes care of his family, perhaps. Maybe you just like hauling stuff, who knows? Well, I see my car as a representative of me in a lot of ways, too. Like I said, a car is a personal choice.

    Have a good night!

:boink:hahahaha why is that stick thing so funny to me???

Hey Jimmy, mildly curious here, what moved you to join this forum if your chosen vehicle is a mid-size pickup? I don't perceive you to be a troll, your opening post simply said didn't attempt to challenge or bash. So just wondering.....as indicated, most folk here either own Prii or are thinking about it/shopping, or we get the occasional troll. None of those categories seem to apply to you.

Anyway, I only buy new vehicles every 8-10 years or so, and then they tend to come in pairs. Bought a Prius in December and a Tacoma just this week. I love both, they serve very different purposes. I needed (well, okay, "wanted") a regular car/passenger vehicle, something durable and economical and nice, thus the Prius. But I also wanted a backwoodsy sort of outfit, something that I could tow light to moderate trailers with, something 4WD for the many fire and logging roads around here, camping, hunting, that sort of thing, not to mention the periodic run to Lowe's or Home Depot for my occasional home projects, hauling away brush and limbs from pruned trees (we don't have a lot of "migrant workers" here in Montana, and I'd want to do that stuff myself anyway, spend my workdays behind a desk and need to do something with my hands), that sort of thing, thus the Tacoma. I had considered for a time getting something that I could use as a "jack of all trades" vehicle like a Hybrid Highlander, but wanted better mileage than that on trips, plus figured that for the price of a HH, I could get both the Prius and the Taco in very basic versions, which is what I prefer to all of the bells and whistles anyway. Plus, the HH wouldn't be a truck and I'd not want to fill it with garbage to haul to the landfill, or drive it through brush and rocks for fear of trashing it. This way I get the best of both ends of the spectrum for just a tad more than I would have paid for the HH, but I do get nailed a bit by having two vehicles on insurance and plates. Still, there are times when it's nice to have two, when company is here, one is "down" for some reason, etc.

Jeez, sorry to ramble. Welcome aboard. And thank you, Sam, for your thoughtful and interesting posts.

Believe it or not the Prius is roomier inside then my step mom's Full size Dodge Charger. And even more so if you have kids in the back seat. Her cargo area seems much larger though.

I for one am no extreemist. I like to do my part to help the planet, but I like saving a lot of money and having a super high tech car even more, and I don't want to buy three times as much gass at $3.50 per gallon for the enjoyment of some high tech luxury.

I'd like to know how my 1999 S-10 truck is "High tech and luxurious".
I guess my new 2008 Silverado is High tech somewhat since it gets 7 MPG more than my S-10 does. Although It's cool I have doubled my C.I. (Cylinder Index)

I'm in the Army and I make about 70,000 a year. No kids either and both vehicles are paid for. I fill up once a week at an amount of $40 but overall I'm happy with my purchases.
