Help in replacing liftgate switch

I have a 2010 IV with a liftgate latch problem. The problem is that the lifegate latches, but still allows some upward movement and whenever I go over a bump then several very annoying things happen. (Car warning beep goes off, yellow triangle warning lights appear on dash, and “key detected in vehicle” message appears). Have to stop, reclose the lifegate and try to avoid bumps.

I ordered a new replacement switch thinking I could install it myself but am concerned I may not be able to do this correctly. I am wonder if anyone has ever replaced one of these? It comes with a red cord temporally tied to a flip lever on hidden part which must be there for some purpose during the installation. If anyone has a manual to check the proper installation that would be appreciated.
