its been very wet here, and my lovely prius is stuck in the mud. I know the prius shouldnt be towed, so any suggestions techniques to get her out ?
You are supposed to be able to tow it with the eye hook thing in the jack/temporary tire area in the hatch area. There is a little cover in the front bumper, you pop that out, and there is a hole that the eye hook screws into, screw it in and you can pull the car with that, just remember to have the car in neutral and no brakes on.
They towing restriction involves speed and distance. Even in N, drivetrain components are spinning. Without the engine running, lubrication does not circulate, so Toyota suggests not towing a Prius with the drive wheels on the ground. This doesn't apply to your situation, unless your Prius has been disabled and needs to be towed to the dealer. The first posters suggestion is correct. Use the towing ring and put your Prius in N. Tom
get a tow-strap and pull her out with another car. There's two tow hooks in the back corners, and the attachable eye for the front, as stated above. Either that, or call Yoda, he's good at levitation.. So was Linda Blair.
wondering why no one has just replied call AAA is there something about being stuck in the mud that would make one ineligible for roadside assstiance?
Uh, the poster is in the UK, I doubt AAA would be much help, and it would be a good while to get to the Prius, if it did.
There may be a AAA affiliate in the UK. I once used my AAA card when I locked myself out of a rental Escort in Stockholm -- the coat hanger cost me $40US. I kept it, "just in case..."
In the UK it is the AA or the RAC (Royal Automobile Club), both of which have been around as long as or longer than the AAA here in the US. But maybe the OP isn't a member of either. Plus it's still raining there I understand. Last month (August) was the wettest in the UK since records began!
thanks to all for the advice. Unfortunately the AA wasn't an option, as it was stuck in my front garden - I really must pave that bit if Im going to park there Just in case there are some anti prius trolls lurking, any front wheel drive car would have bogged down and sunk in, and the VSC never came on at all. Anyway, I dug the mud out in front of the wheels and built a ramp with bricks that she could climb up and out of the hole, and then off for a thorough wash.
