Hello to all from a cold, crisp Scotland.

Considering a Gen2 Prius for our next car so here to learn first. Particularly looking for a buyer's guide and tests of systems when buying.

    Thanks, Simon

    welcome!

not sure i have ever seen either. i would buy the newest, lowest mile car you can afford.

miles are easier on the hybrid battery, so there's that.

oil burning can be a concern on higher mile vehicles. maintenance records and one owner would be nice.

you can get dr. prius app and check the battery, but that wont mean that it cant fail the next day.

tere are a couple of expensive hybrid systems, especially if you cannot diy. battery, a/c compressor, brake actuator.
learn how to reset the trip meter and take it for a good long drive under varied conditions. see what it returns for mpg's.

    all the best!(y)

The infotainment system changed during 2006, you may want a Prius newer than that. Consumer Reports magazine in the US felt the 2008 and 2009 Prius were the most reliable.

Most of us on PriusChat are in North America, so watch for differences in the Maintenance frequency and Oil types. We mean well, but EU oils are not our SAE motor oils and EU Petrol is not our gasoline. (In general EU is better)

Thanks both Despite popularity here too there’s precious little UK based information. I’m pretty ok with diy mechanics and non-hv electrics but I’d want to know more what I was getting before spending far too precious resources. That said I guess there are plenty of high price items on conventional cars you can’t test.

Thanks. I saw Carista seems popular to use particularly with Dr Prius. I'll get that before serious viewing.
