When i attempt to lock my prius 4th gen by pressing the door handle sensor, it doesnt lock, it has a long beep sound and on the multi-information screen inside the car , the message that it shows is "Key Detected in the vehicle", when the key is actually in my pocket and i'm outside of the car.
Have any of you experienced this and is there a solution to this?
So, ultimately, i had to use the Lock Button on the key fob to lock the car.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated!
    Thank you!

No idea - I'd be asking the dealer.

Please verify for sure the second fob is hanging on the hook at home.

Is it possible that the second FOB might be within range of the PRIUS? If the car is parked at home, try moving it somewhere else and try locking it.

Have a read of the MANUAL "Opening, closing and locking the doors" section - there might be one of the many warnings which meet with your situation.

I think you hit the nail on the head.
My second key is hanging just inside of the door that leads to the garage. I moved the second key more interior and it seems to be working fine now. So presumably it was in range as the car is parked next to that door.
Well we will see if this acts up again. Thanks for all your help, everyone!

that's odd, i don't think i've ever had an issue, even with both fobs near the car or on my person.

I was going to suggest taking your key far away from the car then returning to the car without it and trying to start the car, if it starts, there's a key in it, but, the second key was in range, got it.

Yes it's odd. Maybe there's some malfunction with my key fob or sensors. Will monitor this and highlight it when she goes for her servicing.

I agree that this is odd. My wife often rides with me and carries her fob in her purse. I routinely walk to her side of the car and lock the door with the button on the handle. Both fobs are within a foot or so of the car when I lock it.

The consciences is, FOB's left to close to the car will kill the FOB's battery. It's communicating with the car when it's in range.

This is true. But, I miss the point. How is this germane to the OP?
