So my the handle on the back hatch of my 2008 broke off tonight. Have it temporarily held in place with glue. Has anyone tried to fix this themselves? Any advice on the best place to get a new part? I read online somewhere the dealer will charge $1000 for a replacement.
Handle No I don't think so He's talking about the part with the Toyota logo on it or the word Toyota on it with the plate lights in it for the cutouts for the plate lights in it You snatch that right off lifting the hatch up or something so all you need is that plastic piece You got to take the inside trim off the trunk and they're two or three screws in there that will undo the part that broke off is still stuck in the car The screws will release all that plastic it'll fall to the ground You need a new hatch release button cover I think is what it might be called You're not really supposed to be pulling and lifting on that as you put your finger on the rubber button pad which if you don't have you need to get You lift up or you guide the trunk up on the rubber button pad You don't want to be pulling on what you were pulling on to lift the trunk you just put your hand on the button it unlocks because your hand is there if you have SKS or you've unlocked it previously and you just push up on that rubber piece leave your fingers there You don't need any more energy than that If it's winter time and the deck lid is frozen do not attempt to open it drive the car till it's completely warmed up on full tilt heat for 10-15 minutes and then go back and try the trunk If it opens look around the rubber seal and see where the ice is and wipe it down with some armor all or something like that it will help the ice not stick and form also make sure there's no buildup in between the body and the rubber gasket some people will have that filled to the top of the gasket with tree crap run it out with your finger blast it off with the hose clean it with some super clean or something like that blast it off again and keep that area clean
