It seems to me that there should be a light that shines down on the hatch area whenever the hatch door gets opened. Perhaps this light could also give an early clue when the hatch door is not shut all of the way too. Has anyone added such a thing? EDIT--Or maybe there is one, and it's shut off. I haven't got around to reading the manual yet, or doing a thorough daytime visual inspection.
There IS a light in the cargo area that can be switched off... and is normally switched by the hatch. Look in the cargo area, it is low on your left. Is this what you are looking for? If you put a light up on the hatch to shine down, then you'd make a big shadow when you leaned in to get something.

Yeah...pretty wimpy light there and is it just me or do others "close" the hatch only to see that "open door" idiot light shining on the dash as they're halfway down the block?
