I want to get rid of the shifter part of the console from where it meets the radio to the cup holder. I seen there is a push button shifter and I'm thinking of getting a junkyard center piece and reworking it. I hate having to reach around and its just wasted space IMO. Basically make it somewhat like the 2016.

Who ever takes this on, I will follow you. I too, am not crazy about the center console. I was thinking about how to change or remove it.

pretty sure someone took a sawzall to it. still searching for the thread. there's nothing in there but the shifter wiring, and that can be put anywhere.

What'll this do to resale or trade-in value?

Just don't emulate the alabaster white look I guess.

I've seen a photo of a mod like this. I'm pretty sure it was in Japan on Instagram.
I just spent an hour in a meeting browsing through all of the #プリウス tagged photos ...

This Prius don't stand much of a chance in having any resale value. In my first year of ownership it already has 32000 miles. Between my drive to work everyday and a few hours a month doing Uber it will be wore out in no time.

Unfortunately an accident or two are our "mods", they really eat into trade-in value. Car's as good as new, but...

I try to never underestimate the talent of people.
Seems like nearly anything someone dreams up they want to do, somebody can do it.

    But wow.
Given the plastics involved and the entire structure of the flying buttress and the dash, I'd be REALLY hesitant to make any huge wholesale structural modification.
You do it wrong? I think you could create a real mess. Some people complain of the creaks and squeaks coming from the dash as it is, remove the supporting flying buttress? Who knows what you are going to end up with?

If anyone undertakes such a modification I'd be curious as to see how the final product ends up.

I never liked the flying buttress dash design. But I've grown to live with it, and actually appreciate some of it's advantages. It does create a "Cock-Pit" look and feeling, and the empty space below it? Is nice to throw things and store things.

I think whenever there is a Generational Change, sometimes there is a desire from the previous generation to "catch up" with the new look. Well? Good luck if you try. but I think I'll live with my Gen 3 and it's dash design pretty much "as is".

think of how much more useful the space below would be, if the bridge wasn't there. we need a draw bridge.

I sit at the corner of the table, so that no one can see my screen, and I browse it openly, as if I'm looking at some important and very relevant messages. All the while I'm nodding and making appropriate facial expressions to match the mood of the discussion. I'm sure I look very important. Otherwise, I look like a total fraud and nobody cares. :)

As soon as I bought my used 2010 I removed the buttress. After 2 weeks of uncomfortable driving with various steering wheel and seat positions, I just won't put up with the discomfort. NOW I just have to finish the project and make it look presentable. Posted are pictures of the current state of things. (I'm tall with long arms so reaching the shifter in its temporary shifter location is not an issue.)

I wondered what it looked like without it. If you finish it to something worthwhile, you may be on to something!
