Has anyone experimented with MPG when "trying" vs "not trying"

    My new to me 2008 is getting around 45 in the city and this is with me constantly watching the screen, coasting, gliding, using cruise control etc. I am just curious if anyone has experimented with going an entire tank where you just drive and not worry about hard accelerations, coasting, etc and how much of a difference that made in MPG

    If I drive my 2007 without a care in the world then I'm around 44-46 in the nice weather. If I pay more attention, using the same exact travel routes, currently 53+.

    Yup. It's the difference between 55-60mpg vs. 47-50mpg when I had the Gen 2 back in the day.

    on my 08, i could go from 45 all the way to the low 60's under the right circumstances. (on the screen, not actual at the pump)

    I don’t think I could do that. It’s not JUST for fuel economy; it tends to bleed into tailgating, lane jumping, speeding and flipping off “slow pokes”, rolling stops, and so on. Oh, and leaving it running with the AC while you run into 7-11, idling in drive-thru’s. Ugh…

    I haven't found too much difference between "driving like a saint" and a little less saint-like between identical trips on different days.

    Biggest variance I've seen to date has to do with how fast you cruise.

    Next bigger one is the outside temperature.

    If I really try on flat terrain at 45mph, with little traffic, I get 65-72mpg for a ten mile ride.
