Can anyone help me pick between these two.

The specs seem similar but I noticed that the hankook can hold 3k lbs

Yes west coast, but I frequently drive north.
Weather is getting pretty bad but I don't think I can justify a winter tire just because of the wear factor.

The Firestone talks about being a 65000 mile tire, the load limit is almost half of the Hancook. Do you need 3k lbs? that's 12k totaI, the Prius isn't rated for 6 tons well above the Prius load limit

My take: the Firestone is presenting a high life time mileage replacement tire, the Hancook looks to be a more agressive tire, although I'm not sure the stiffness they discuss on their web site is a plus in winter driving. . It's also a bit less expensive, If you were looking for a compromise all around tire to deal with occasional snow, the Hancook is the choice, in my opinion, I would be interested in what you bought (1 1/2 months later :) )

If I were looking for the best all season tire, to deal with snow, I would check out Consumer Reports reviews of same.

I think the hankook weight rating is a description error.
I went with hankook and the actual tires state 1650.

If you need some snow traction, yes I would go with the Hancook also.

    No I went with 205/75/15
This gives you roughly a 1" lift

    No rubbing or scraping

4 Hancooks cost me 280 with tax and my last val tire shop does a mount and balance for 40 dollars.
    320, all said and done.

Did you do the math on odo/speedo error?

    That being said.

I will be switching to firestone 215/70/15

The Hankook tires info was wrong, they actually weigh in at 22 lbs and that is a pretty big deal for mpg

I was just thinking about this last night,
    It's about 8 percent
Gps speed 50, odo shows 3mph difference.

I removed my cargo carrier and my read mpg shows 40 mpg vs the 35 I was getting all week.

I'll have to run a full tank to dry to get more accurate results.

I was thinking even more, since speedo typically reads high (with stock tires), it’s supposed to. But with this tire calculator:

    Tire Size Calculator

I get 752 revs-per-mile with your oversized tires, and 808 with the stock 195/65R15.

    808/752=1.074

    So yeah, 7%.

    Interesting note:
Charged my car at work, it showed 20.9 miles(full)
    distance to home...22 miles
I arrived home with 1.4 miles to spare.

    This has never happened.

Just received a new firestone A/S, hard to get good information these days.

Firestone tire weighs in at 21 lbs

    Hankooks weigh in at 19.6lbs

Firestone tread looks to be a little more aggressive and the sidewall is more in line with the width, the hankooks sort of balloon out, maybe due to the rim width being thinner.

Anecdotally I have only had Hankooks once on my old Camry, and absolutely hated them. I usually buy all-season tires and don't do off-roading or anything extreme, so my tires are usually invisible. With the Hankooks I could tell I was losing traction more frequently. Was glad to get rid of them FWIW.

My VW came with Ecopia like many Primes do - replaced them with Hankook Kinergy PT H737 - great tire with 90k warranty. Lots of value for the price.

    update.
Keep in mind my car was fully loaded
    2 humans
2 dogs and a cargo carrier plus surfboard and a 12v fridge
    36mpg on a 500 miles trip
    Hankook optimo H724 205/75/15
    500 treadwear

Firestones were ok but my mpg dropped to 30, I believe due to the increased width
    215/70/15

    Newest tire
    Hankook kinergy 205/75/15
    680 treadwear

I'll update my stats as I drive around.

Are you going by what the car tells you? That might actually be accurate, lol:

In my experience (with stock tires) the displayed mpg is about 7.5% optimistic. By “design” I think: Toyota’s execs saw a cheap bragging rights ploy and couldn’t resist.

Then, your oversized tires will have the car thinking you’ve travelled roughly 7.5% less distance (per our earlier discussion and calf’s).

    So it balances out. :)

I actually went by filling up and then refilling with odometer mileage divided. I noticed that my cars mpg readout was more accurate the more miles traveled.

If you only go 50 miles then it's about 2-3 mpg off
I think this is because cost savings comes from the hybrid motor kicking in a low speeds
