After suffering the barrage of rattles last winter that went away as the weather warmed up, I was becoming accustomed to my loaded out 2010 Prius V. I bought it during a period of lower demand and got several thousand off list price. Driving on a long trip, the right seat back began it's normal rattle no matter where you have it adjusted. Shortly thereafter the dash began to buzz annoyingly. I then thought about how all the other rattles would be back as winter approached. I could spend some time getting all these things fixed at the dealer, but should I have to? When I got home something strange happened. Someone offered me what I paid for the car new. I let them have it. I enjoyed the mileage and the technology. When they engineer the rattles out of it, it may make a nice car. I can afford the gas. It is a great car, but not for me. May each new Prius get better and better as they roll off the line. Competition abounds.

Sorry to hear that. The rattles in my GenII drive me crazy but it's my fault for tearing things apart and driving on country roads.

Hopefully Toyota will fix the interior rattle issues that plague the GenIII. Good luck on your next purchase, Jerry. :)

My 2011 had one creaking sound in the back right passenger side when I would roll it over uneven pavement but I was able to silence it thanks to a tip on one of these PC threads.

Other than that no weird sounds anywhere in the car, pretty solid and quiet, knock on wood. ..

No rattles in mine either. When I do hear a rattle, it turns out to be something I put in the center console or in one of the glove boxes. I notice that Toyota lined the tray under the gearshift and the interior hand grips in the doors with soft material, perhaps to quell rattles from stuff put there??

I find it really odd that some Prii are made rock-solid and some are rattlers off the production line. I have a friend with one made very well and I'm always amazed that it has no rattles, unlike mine. Could there be a difference in assembly between plants? Beats me.

I don't give up so easy and tore mine apart from "A" pillars, "B" pillars, dash, seats, doors, rear wheel panels finally stopping at the hatch and solved most noises. I still have one left in the roof and oddly, the hotter it gets outside, the more it makes its "crunch and pop" noise! No one should have to go thru the process of "re-engineering" the interiors so the car is quiet.

OP: congrats on breaking even on the sale!

You just reminded me, I was clipping a gearshift plastic panel back together after working on a couple of wire harnesses on the back of my HU, and I noticed a few small strips of felt on the sides of it. Seems like it was put there to help reduce any rubbing sounds between the panels? I wonder if Toyota added this on the 2011 from all the complaints they received From the 2010s?

Gonna go outside again and hug my Prius, I'll never let you go little buddy!

From the posts on here it seems to be a crap shoot. From everyone I know personally with a Prius including myself, not a single rattle.

I hope you try a later model out sometime. I think it was luck of the draw with the 2010's. Mine won't rattle unless I drive over a pothole or something of that nature, which would make ANY car rattle.

Better watch that "little" stuff...every time I use the words little and Prius in the same paragraph, some cheerleader shrieks at me about it. ;)

    " It's NOT small...it's NOT, it's NOT!!!!"

My G3 rattles a bit, but it probably wouldn't be enough to illuminate the 'change owner' light for me (if it weren't a company car.) I always advise prospective G3 buyers to rent one for a weekend before buying so that they can explore this and other issues....

Ok..ok I hear ya, but any cheerleader that has discomfort about their Prius being called "little" really has other issues that need to be addressed in private. :D

Out of the many Prii rentals I have driven, some rattle and some don't. I listen to music in the rattle box Prii and chit chat with the wife in the non-rattlers.

Mine does. Until Toyota starts using screws again instead of clips, their cars will continue to rattle. Most of mine come from the tonneau cover (even though it has felt). Our 2002 Camry never rattled. It was solid and was one of the first built (August 2001 build)

Suppose a guy could take all the interior apart and glue it all together with RTV. I did that with my Saturn Vue as it had rattles on the outside plastic body parts. Pulled panels off and put a dab of RTV where it looked like a panel contacted another. Put it all together, let it cure, no rattles now :p

I think the same thing could be done on a Prius interior.

JerrySC-- sorry to hear about your serious rattle problem. I'd already forgotten about my dash rattle until reading your post. The only thing that kept me sane was that the rattle was at the far right of the dash, so sitting in the driver's seat it wasn't quite so annoying. I'm not looking forward to the winter and the rattle's return, but with such low mileage on my 2010 and higher 2011 prices I can't justify a new purchase.
