Okay, everyone, don't think i am a complete crackhead! But i had such an odd dream! I had thought that what if there was an air filter that went through the bottom of the car, and the filtered air came out from an exhaust-like pipe from the rear of the car. This would ensure a higher 'Green' car factor and a more sporty looking appearence with two chrome exhaust pipes..

Ever since i switched my daily use from my land rover to the prius, i cant stop thinking about it!

    WERE IN LOVE!!! AHHH!

    haha

It's my understanding that some Volvos (S80?) "clean" the air as you drive as the pollutants out of the exhaust pipe is cleaner than what's going into the engine and the cabin.

Industrial gas turbines actually clean the air as they work - they burn so hot that smog gets all used up. From what i hear, there are tons of them running in LA... too bad they can't keep up

So your idea is to filter the air/environment as we drive? Interesting idea, however there would, necessarily, be increased drag to push the air through the filter rather than around the car...probably easily negating any benefit. Not to mention the expense of such a filter, replacement, and, ultimately, finding one that would efficiently filter anything 'important'.

I believe that they use a platinum coated radiator that when hot enough it catalyzes some of the air pollution that flows past it. The concept has been around a few years but does not seem to be gaining momentum.
