Very nice. Since I already have a regular pass, how would it work? Will they send me a new green pass or charge 10% less from their system (using existing pass)?

NM, I just read Danny's post on Hybrid Scoop.

    Yes!!!

Yet another reduction in the total cost of owning a Prius. The cost or should I say saving in owning a hybrid car makes more sense everyday....

But are they providing the same resources for reducing the cost of owning a Prius in other countries? <_<

I am interested in finding out more info on the patent number/s given for the Prius? Is the vehicle, Synergy Drive System or components including the Nickel-Metal Hydride (Ni-MH) batteries patented?

Would appreciate any info you can give.

What about us poor folk, like me, who have EZpass in other states like NJ???
How can we get our states to do the same?

Good question.. But the green pass will not work.. I had to use the external one that mounts on the license plate.. they will have to make a green one of those <_<

Wow, was there a difference in the older Prius model years that effects EZPass?(I see from your sig that you have a 2004) My EZ Pass tag is mounted in the standard location behind the rearview mirror in my 2006 and it has worked without a problem.

I did the same with mine... But it would not register 3/4 of the time.. then they told me that they recommend the external one for the prius..
Do not know if that changed with different model year? or.. if it is different for the NJ ez-pass?

Maybe I've just been lucky so far. On the surface, the NY and NJ ezpass look the same. I've lived in NY all my life, but had an NJ ezpass for years. The NJ site is www.ezpass.com and I didn't realize there was a difference if you signed up at www.ezpassny.com. I had to return it to get a NY ezpass in order to get a Staten Island resident discount.

It might be possible to order an NY ezpass when you are in NJ if you use the web site, but the discount might only be for NY tolls.

I didn't know that EZPass, at least in NY, had a $1 monthly fee. I rarely get on the thruway but was considering getting one for the convenience factor. I changed my mind after I discovered the monthly fee, it's just not worth it in my case.

[/quote] You can get an EZ-Pass from any state that offers it, it'll work on the entire network. I got mine from MA (they call it Fast Lane), and it works fine in NY. So shop around, you may be able to find a more agreeable rate. (MA's, by the way, is now $27.50 for the transponder, but no monthly fee. I think there are better deals elsewhere now.)

Hmmmm.....I live in Maine but have a New York EZ Pass.....and I do not pay a $1 monthly fee?? I'm going to see if they'll honor my Maine registration for the Green Pass - and I , like others, wonder if the discount is just NY (I suspect so).

I could be wrong but that was the impression I got when I was reviewing the information during the signup process. Here's what they listed.

    16. Schedule of Deposits/Administrative Fees
Per tag deposit (cash and check customers) $10.00
Per tag deposit (credit card customers) waived
Cost of tag if defaced, damaged, lost or stolen:
    Interior $23.00
    Exterior $29.40
    Returned check fee $25.00
Monthly statement by mail, annual fee $6.00
    Duplicate copy of Statement $2.00
PANYNJ and TBTA monthly Account service fee $1.00
    Account revocation fee $25.00
Tag retention fee Up to $25.00
    Unmounted Tag fee $10.00
Other Tag misuse/violation administrative fees Up to $50.00

So is "PANYNJ and TBTA monthly Account service fee" not a monthly fee for NY residents? I couldn't find a good explanation on what that was.

There is no $1 fee anymore. They dropped it several years ago

Who do you have your account with? Mine is MBTA and I'm still getting hit with the monthly fee (which was not part of the deal when I first got an EZ-Pass, but that was back when they first installed it on the Triboro.

Also, it appears the 10% discount is ONLY on NY Thruway tolls and only available if your EZ-pass account is with the NY Thruway Authority.
