    Hey everyone,

Picked up my brand new Prius v with luxury package last Tuesday in Edmonton. Already got 1000km on it!
I'm sure the new car excitement will wear off eventually but right now I look for any excuse to drive it.
Besides the fuel savings, which i'm averaging 5.1 L/100km so far, Its such a relaxing and comfortable car to drive, the fuel economy is just a bonus!
My old car was a Honda Fit(2008) and averaged 7 L/100km. The Fit was fun to drive, like a go cart is fun to drive, but that can get tiresome on a long drive and although it was a super reliable car and had served me well for just over 200,000km it was time to move on.
I chose the prius v over the liftback for a few reasons, one, when similarily equipped with the options i wanted the prius v was in fact cheaper than the liftback(my original choice), two, the seats felt more comfortable to me than in the liftback, and as i hope to keep this car for minimum 10 years i wanted it to be big enough to grow with me and my needs in the future. I don't have a family to haul around at the moment but I enjoy camping, mountain biking, and taking long road trips so the cargo space will definitely be put to good use. Actually hauled my bike into the city today to ride some trails and it easily fit in the back laying on its side with both wheels still attached. I already ordered the eco hitch so i can use my hitch mount rack, but, glad to know i have the option to easily store my bikes in the car if needed with room to spare.
Anyways, I'm starting to notice more and more Prii when i'm out driving now. Only seen one or 2 out in spruce grove where i live, but they are becoming more and more common it seems, even in Alberta, where nearly every man and his dog drives a full size pickup or SUV. :)

Welcome to the land of new Prius v owners. Nice to see another Canuk here.LOL
5.1 L/100km? That sounds a little high. Are you doing more highway driving? I'm consistently getting 4.4 - 4.5 L/100km. I'm mostly city driving though.

my wife just got one and it is pretty neat. i was driving it over the weekend and was surprised how fast it went. 80 felt fine on the highway. we got tints yesterday and that makes it look even nicer. they were out of 15% since she didnt want to wait we went with 20%.

On my 3rd tank now(just filled up yesterday) and 1300km. Yes I do drive 90% highway commuting to work. Average speed is 100kmh, 60km trip each way. I live in a very small city 15 mins west of edmonton. Finally figured out some of the trip computer functions and how to update/reset the average economy reading on the nav/audio display. I find if i reset after filling up in town and just drive around town in stop and go traffic for awhile i do get around 4.3L/100km but soon as i get on the highway and drive for a few minutes at 105kmh it goes back up to 5.1, which is actually great IMO. Still untouchable highway economy for its size class. Like i said before, my Honda fit which was far smaller and less comfortable cruising on the highway got around 6 highway and 8 city.
I'm hoping maybe economy will get a bit better after break in but i have my doubts, i think the better mileage after break in thing is kind of a myth, least in my experience, my last car seemed to get the same mileage from day one as it did at 200,000km. YMMV

welcome aboard - if there is any improvement at all for "break-in" you probably will see it about now - and that's mainly as the tires wear in to the car's alignment, etc. In the states myself - I went from a 4x4 suv to the v2 .. and I went from 20mpg ... to 47.2-47.3 calculated 49.8-50 displayed... needless to say - with my commute at about 50 miles each way - that paid for half may car payment - in fuel savings. the space for me - was the same... which will work well with 3 kids under age 12 - and drums/pa gear to haul on occasion.

I second the color choice. I cannot wait to see a picture of the V with a foot of snow on it.

    Thanks.
I wasn't really sure how the Blizzard pearl would look, looked kinda ok in pictures i saw but i was blown away when first seeing it in person, very happy with paying the extra $250 for it over the alpine white or anything else.

Well asudan we aren't far off from snow here. Morning temperatures are starting to get in the single digits here, could easily see first snow mid/late october. I'll be sure to post snow covered pics when it happens. :D

And mudmanrv i'm a believer in the "break in" again, i'm around 1500km now and noticing a slight improvement in economy. averaging 4.8-4.9 on the computer now since last fill up. I did have a strong tail wind yesterday on the way home on the highway which got me 4.7 but with no wind today never saw higher than 4.9 on the way to work averaging 105kmh. I did check one tank by hand calculation and it was such a small difference to me i think the computer is close enough, maybe off by .2l/100km at the most.

    Happy Priusing everyone :)

Caved in and purchased a v today! Still trying to convince myself I took the right decision. Wanted (more than needed) more space, without having to pay the fuel costs. Not a big fan of SUVs anyways. I always park in the streets, and what still worries me is the fact that I park in the snow/ice every winter (vive Montréal!). A tad costly too (I was also looking at the Civic, which I drove for the past 14 years).

I do not know when it will be available, as we ran out of Priuses (Prii??) very fast in Quebec apparently.

    mistergreenwood, welcome to "club V".
I'm sure you'll find you made the right choice. I think they're selling fast here in Ontario too. You will love the fuel savings. I'm currently averaging 4.4 L/100km mostly city driving (got to love this Toronto traffic!). I'm waiting to see how it handles in the winter, although I'm sure it's plenty worse in Montreal. Enjoy your new "V".

Congratulation! I'm sure you will enjoy driving to Spruce Grove and fuel savings.
I'm from Edmonton as well, soon due for an oil change at 8K km.
Which dealer did you buy it from?

I bought it from Kingsway Toyota; when I went for a service and ask to have reverse gear "beep" reduced to 1-beep, they told me it CAN NOT BE DONE. When I told them that US dealers doing it they told me that Canadian version is different. Which is hard for me to believe in it.
Is Canadian dealer pulling my leg?

    Hey, Thanks.
I bought from Mayfield Toyota just because it happened to be the closest dealer to spruce grove. I did go to Kingsway Toyota one time to try to get a test drive in but I stood around in the showroom for 15 minutes, got bored of waiting for a sales person to help me(everyone was busy) and left.
Who knows, could've got a better deal elsewhere but personally, i'd rather have good service/relationship with my dealer over saving few bucks.
I'm just over 5000km now on my V. My product advisor told me they would send me a reminder in the mail around February for my first service being due. Must not think i plan on "driving" my car. at this rate should be due for my 8K service near the end of October.
Mayfield has been very good to me so far. Before delivery I requested to have the reverse beep changed to one beep as i read about on this forum. He just told me it would be done no problem. If they don't believe you just show them in the owners manual, its under custom vehicle settings section(can't remember the page number). only a handful of settings can be changed by the owner in the setup screen on the display audio. Most settings can "only" be changed by the dealer, and should be free of charge. Reverse beep setting is one of them. Your "salesman/service advisor" probably wouldn't know anything about this as they deal with many different vehicles all the time. Just tell them to have your mechanic do it, he should have the knowledge/training to do this for you and would understand the service request.
By the way, what color is your V? I was running some errands around edmonton on Monday and saw one Red Prius V. Only other one i've seen so far in the edmonton area, besides a few taxi cabs.

You are correct the manual is talking about turn the reverse beep off on page #528. Kingsway Toyota mechanic is either incompetent or lazy, I'll talk to the service manager tomorrow :-/ and if they will not do it I'll be going to Mayfield.
I did first oil change at 4K myslelf, it is easy.
My color is sky-blue, yes I've seen several taxi Prius-V as well, I think they like fuel saving and space.
