Hello All I have been working a lot on my little prius while putting about 500 miles of commuting time on her. As I mentioned before in another thread I have way more money than planned in the Prius. One of the latest projects was to replace the headlights. When I bought it I thought I could simply polish and clean them up but once I got started I realized that the headlights have a upper layer that had been stripped off the upper portion of both headlights and could not be fixed. Could not find new ones so ordered some new ones off of ebay.
Images show status of the headlights - you may have to zoom in see the status of the old bulbs - note how dim the headlights were. I was thinking of going to LED lights to see if I could improve vision but the guy at autozone recommended a set of halogen bulbs shown in the images below
The new bulb is blue and looks quite a bit different than the old bulb. In combination with the new headlight assemblies the lights are considerably brighter. Photos of the new headlights follow - need to take some photos of the headlights turned on.
Not too good at posting yet but managed to get photos uploaded - new (used) headlights improve the look considerably
I will take a photo with the lights on to show the improvement - also thinking of applying some protectant to keep the headlight plastic from yellowing further - In the end the job wasn't that tough except that you basically need to remove the plastic bumper cover, the tires, the plastic inner wheel well tubs, and loosen some of lower front plastic covers. Took me a couple of hours to complete, in part because I did not know exactly what needed to be lose, lowered, or removed.
