:cheer2:2002 Prius 140,000 miles 10 months left on rebuilt battery pack warranty! :cheer2:
    (Got it in writing)

    Now for the questions. :p

    1. On the MFD, Is the battery icon just that? An Icon? or is it like the Gen 2 and have levels? Over the course of 50 miles home from dealer, it stayed full.

    2. What does it mean when arrows from the motor and battery are going to the wheel?

    3. Although it is 36 degrees outside, If I shut the car off after driving 40miles, and roughly 3-4mins max, later start it up, should the ice run for 5mins before shutting off?

    4. Is there anyway to disconnect the daytime driving lights? While test driving and driving it home, I started driving and forgot to turn on the lights due to the running lights being pretty dang bright. (actually got pulled over on the way home, due to not having my headlights on, hence, no tail lights and pitch black dark outside.)

    5. When I hit the navigation button, it says something about external not connected. What does that mean?

    6. How do I find out how old the 12v battery is? I didn't pull it out, but from what I could see, its all black and says "panasonic" on the front of it. And it says made in Japan on top with a bunch of Japanese writing on it.

    7. Not sure yet, but I'm sure there will be more questions, please check back if there are new posts, as I will continue this thread instead of starting a new one..

    Thanks in advance!!!

OBTW!!! 50miles total trip, 5 miles flat and 35mph. 25miles up and down hills 60mph and 20miles of hills and curves 55mph 36degrees outside and averaged 48.? mpg on the MFD!!! woo hoo!!!

    1. Yes, but it only has notches for full, 3/4, 1/2, 1/4, and empty. You should basically never see less than 1/2. Mine is generally at 3/4, but if it were at full it could stay that way for some time. You'll probably see it go down a notch if you drive for a while on pure electric.

    2. it means that power from both the engine AND the battery are turning the wheels. This is generally in a situation where you're giving it enough throttle that the engine would be operating inefficiently to provide the thrust needed. However, that whole readout is a simplified version of what's going on, so I find trying to understand what it's actually doing based on the arrows is sometimes not possible.

    3. This is a harder one to say, but I do find the car seems to run the engine a significant amount of time after startup even if it's still pretty much warm. Having heating/cooling running will make a MAJOR difference. The engine will kick on far more often if you have the heater, or worse, the defrost going.

    4. not that I know of. You'll get used to having to turn your lights on. There is a dashboard indicator for when they're on, and I quickly made a habit of it being on whenever it was dark or I needed wipers.

    5. That means you don't have a navigation system connected. Your car did not come with navigation equipment and does not have an accessory/aftermarket system added. Anything related to the navigation will basically respond with "umm.. you don't have one."

    6. There should be a date code of some sort. Look for anything that looks like it's in some sort of date format. I've never seen an OEM gen1 prius battery so I can't be of more help there

That's reasonable fuel economy you returned, though you could probably get better with tires inflated to near sidewall max and careful driving. That's a generally positive indicator for the condition of your car.

All the tires have really good tread on them, but only two are matching (on the front) Max psi rating was 40 on all tires and when I checked them when I got home, they were at 30psi, so I pumped them up to 40. Although I find it hard to justify buying 4 brand new tires, I slightly sorta thought about it on the way home, are there tires out there that have a low rolling resistance that are MUCH quieter than the ones I have? My old 17yr old grand prix clunker rides quieter than this does. Kinda reminds me of riding in my cousin's 4x4 that has mud tires on them. The road noise is quite extreme!! (might be exaggerating but it is quite noticable.)
