I need to replace the JLM brand aftermarket HID headlights I installed in my Gen III just five months ago because of an intermittant ballast. It seems like there's a lot of junky HID kits like this one and they all look almost identical- likely come from the same factory, but with different labels.

Admittedly, the JLM's were only $65- I got what I paid for. I'm going to need to spend more. Has anybody had good, long-term results with any particular aftermarket HID kits?

I bought a kit from ddmtuning.com for 48 bucks shipped, 55W 6000K for my 02 explorer and have been impressed thus far. Going to get a kit for the Prius soon. The good thing is they warranty the kit for life so its definitely something to look into.

I'll tell ya. I have bought 3 sets from Ebay user OrangeMika and have not had one problem on either of our cars. Have been on one car for about 2 years and went back to him for the fog lights on the Prius right after I bought it last year. Still going strong and really affordable. The first set was around $80 because I went with the slim ballasts and bought just the regulars for the Prius at around $65. He's super fast and really don't think you could go wrong. Will be buying them for the wife's 2011 Highlander once we buy it in the next couple of months.

Get the H11's from Xenon Depot they're pretty good. get the Volt series for $115 a set. They are very reliable and they even come with a relay. I personally didn't wire a relay cause i was too lazy and I figure I don't really need it unless I have a 55W HID. Don't get the 55W HID kit! I hear lots of stories on it burning your wiring etc.. if you don't have well shielded wires etc. 35W Hid kit is plenty strong and is already 3x brighter than stock halogens.

I highly recommend them because I called them for an issue and they answered right away were very nice and asked for pictures via email. The problem was resolved in no time.

Don't get the Xentec HIDs they are junk. The bulbs turn color and flicker. I got 3 of them and now I don't know what to do with them.

I bought a kit for my old Mitsubishi Eclipse from xenithxenons.com. While their bulbs lasted about a year, their ballasts continue to work. I bought the kit in 07 and sold the car last month. I bought replacement bulbs off of ebay store Formula-J87.

I got the 35W / 4500k + Ballast + Harness kit from DDM Tuning and the system has been working perfectly. $85 total. Wish I could get slightly warmer bulbs but overall the system works great and was easy to install.

BTW, don't let these sites fool you. 4100k-4300k is what modern factory HID systems use -- it produces a very nice white light similar to daylight. I have 4500k and it's definitely bluer than factory cars and kits with 5000k are even bluer.

Human eyes are less sensitive to higher wavelength light (more blue) so if you want maximum visibility, get as warm of a temperature as you can. 4100k would be optimal....

    Just my $0.02

I have a 2010 Prius II. What are the advantages to installing HID headlights instead of whatever is stock?

To get factory HIDs you needto buy the entire assembly and wiring. It's "cheaper, easier and much better to just do a retrofit with aftermarket projectors. Factory Hids will set you back $300+.

R, eboundsimply install a regular HID kit with 4300k or 5000k bulbs and you are set because your car comes with decent projectors from the factory. I recommend a kit from TheRetrofitsource but the DDM kits are ok but I hate their cheap bulbs.

How are the xenonsupply kits? They are a little more expensive (and another 20 for a relay kit), but they have a cool video on youtube of how to install their units and the kit is prepackaged. I was thinking it would be cool to put in 6000k lights in, but will I need the relay kit, and how reliable is this website?

Savegas52, I thought you had a GenII, sorry. You just need to buy an aftermarket HID kit like I told rebound. There are no factory HIDs for the GenIII.

Rebound, the advantage to HIDs is a brighter light with more throw and it makes the headlight look less yellow.

I 'venever used anything from xenondepot but I've never heard anything bad about them.

That xenonsupply kit is canbus and they have Sylvania bulbs, which I have been reading are supposed to be more expensive as well. Anyone with any thoughts?

If they use Sylvania bulbs then the kit is probably a good one. Those cheap ebay kits use cheap Chinese bulbs which are problematic. Avoid them at all costs IMO.

When possible use OEM bulbs like Sylvania Osram and Phillips.
