    “Volkswagen is pleased that it has received regulatory approval to offer affected customers in the United States an approved emissions modification (AEM) for approximately 326,000 Generation One 2.0-liter TDI vehicles with automatic and manual transmissions,” the company announced today.

    With the approval, the automaker can offer owners an option: fix the car or sell it back to VW. According to VW, it submitted test data and technical information showing the modification works without negatively affecting vehicle reliability or durability.

    As part of the deal, Volkswagen is required to explain how and why the modification works and what difference owners may experience in their car’s performance, reliability and durability as a result so they can decide to fix or sell.    ​

    This will have no effect on the on going, criminal proceedings and earlier judgements. But at least the Jetta TDI owners have the option of being compliant or sell them back. Diesels are not my cuppa tea and I understand VW had decided to limit new diesel sales in the USA ... quite understandable.

    Same ol' sneaky underhanded VW. Part of Bob's quote above (pasted below) shows their true colors;
    properly worded the above States, the car is just as "reliable or durable". Gee thats great !!
    how about a more honest wording - like;
    "hey owners - we're sorry, but you can forget about ever getting 60 MPG. You'll be lucky to get 39 - & yep - it's going to be pretty darn gutless too ..... and it'll be so durable & reliable, you'll be able to experience its true gutlessness & mediocre efficiency for a long long - loooong time"

    I think the fix is more of the HPFPs going belly up so the car doesn't run at all.
