I have decided to go w/Sirius. Not y dearlearship, but by local installer. He seemed very knowledgable and was saying they will only do outside antenna mounting. One questiion I have is he mentioned the installation poionts would be either above the rearview mirror (front windshield area or behind the radio antenna at the rear hatch. Anyone out there see a preference?

I need to meet w.him today to see what model of reciever/tuner? he will be installing. He pulled out the box to show me but I didn't get the model #. I know it was labeled fromSius for Toyota installations. Any other questions I should ask? He is a well known and reputable installer in my area

    Thanks,

If they're not going to drill through, the location at the rear hatch is less invasive since you won't disturb any glass weatherseal. It's easy to lift the hatch gasket and run the cable between the gasket and the rain rail. The Sirius instructions say not to place the antenna close to other antennas but you really won't have a problem behind the whip.

i kinda liked that idea of hiding the sirius antenna under the spoiler deal

even the magnetic mount sirius antennas are going to take off some of the paint
when it comes to removing it. it's a pretty strong magnet

i had sirius once on my toyota truck, and make sure they install a real sirius antenna, because the sirius and xm antennas don't seem to be interchangeable.

i have the sirius behind the radio antenna as listed in install instructions. i have a friend Nissian Altima with antenna above rearview. his seems to lose signal less than mine on same roads. i would go with the front install now.

It also could be the antenna that each of you have. My Sirius antenna on my truck is pretty big and blocky whereas my antenna on my Jeep is tiny in comparison. My Jeep antenna is on my hood so it's partially blocked by my windshield if the satellites were to be behind me. My antenna on my truck (the big blocky one) is in the rear of the truck roof with nothing around it. My truck loses signal pretty frequently but my Jeep antenna never loses signal... not even when I'm wheelin'. By wheelin' I mean with canyon walls on both sides that are so close I have my passenger and drivers side tires actually up on their sidewalls on the canyon wall straddling it. :) Can't get much more confined than that.

same antenna on both cars (ref post above). antenna with no obstructions near it looks like the best choice
