just looked at my email and found the toyota plug in notification for the registration...

    says

    Go the distance.

An extended EV mode1 is backed by Hybrid Synergy Drive®, which could give you up to 475 miles on a tank.

What??? i can get that and more on my normal 08 prius? I was really expecting alot more of this plug in, being so exited for it to come out and purchase it. but now doesnt seem it makes any sense at all, atleast for me to purchase this awsome car. I think it would be cheaper and more efficient to add a plugin mod to my 08..

Only recharging a single time then driving until that gas is used up, that sounds about right.

Remember, the tank in the current PHV model is smaller than the cordless model... which shouldn't be a big deal, since odds are quite good you'll be plugging in each night anyway.

I'm thinking tank refills every 750 miles will be common.

    What he said.

In my Volt if I charged once and filled once I would go about 350 miles per tank, however with regular charging I got 1001 miles on my last tank. The extent to which you can stay within your plug-in's EV range will determine how often you buy gas much more than the size of the fuel tank.

They are talking using the 13 miles of ev and then running the rest of the tank in HV mode. Remember the plug in also has a smaller 10.6 gallon tank, compared to the 11.9 of the regular Prius. If you run in ev, recharge, run in ev recharge, use HV, etc of course like others have said you will get more between fillups.

I was looking to buy a Honda Fit Sport last month for a second car. I found out that the Fit has a 10.6 gallon gas tank located under the driver's seat, its mileage is 27/33 with 31 combined. So I think 10.6 gallon tank for Prius Plug in is about right.

I think the Prius Plug-In does not need a big capacity tank. I am always amazed though when a company advertise how far you can go on a tank of gas. How far you can go on a charge is very important information, but how far you can go on tank is the most irrelevant information IMO since a tank is not a unit of measurement and there are gas stations all over the place. A tank in a Ford Expedition is a very different animal than a tank in a Honda Fit.

In my case, I live in Florida and I work 6.1 miles from my residence. I am planning to only put 5 gallons of gas each time I go to the gas station. I looked that 10 gallons of gas weigh 28kg or 61.7 lbs(dead weight). I agree with previous posts if you run it in EV, recharge and recharge, and sometimes in HV, you can easily double or maybe triple the 475 depending on your situation.

Small gas tanks are good. Hopefully they keep shrinking and shrinking in size :)

I got that email too. At the bottom, it said:

With Gen2 46 MPG EPA figure, 9.54 gallons will get 439 miles.

I'm with Gilbert on this one. I had the same reaction. The footnote says "on 9.54 gallons of gas".
    - First, what a bizarre number - 9.5FOUR? That multiplies out to 477 miles, 9.5 would be 475 miles. And yes, I also get well over that in the summer in my '04 and nearly that in the winter when the MPG is down.

    - Second, nothing in the information provided says that isn't the full tank to empty so seeing here that the tank is 10.6 at least lets me know they left 1.1 gallons out for 55 miles of "don't run out of gas" safety I guess.

    - Third, they seem to have lost something somewhere since it says "Combining an extended all-electric mode [1][2] with proven hybrid technology, it can get you up to 475 miles before your next fill-up ". Shouldn't the "up to" range on 9.54 gallons of gas PLUS the electric be 490?

    - Fourth, Not even a hint at the price. Why would I want to order something if I have no idea what it will cost?

Oddly the email said: Bruce, owner of a 2006 Prius. The 2006 is titled to my wife, the 2004 is mine. But then, EVERY time I call the local dealer, they always want to do something to my wife's car. Probably because we bought it there but the '04 was purchased in New Hampshire.

Of course it is still the same interior design as the 2010, meaning the right knee bashing arch is there. I've been in the driver's seat of my in-laws' 2010 and it was NOT a pleasant experience for a guy with long legs. Also meaning: I am unlikely to buy another Prius, PHEV or not, regardless of the price unless they get rid of the arch.

At least they have the northeast on their 'early' list unlike the Leaf. I have NO idea when I will have the opportunity to check that out in Vermont and, frankly, it is a more likely replacement for the '04 when the time comes. We don't need 2 unlimited range cars; even 65 miles (most probable Leaf range in the depth of winter) is plenty for one of our cars. I will be on the west coast in a couple of weeks, though I doubt any Nissan dealers have demos.

Geez guys, "Your Mileage May Vary." I thought we all knew that. Toyota has to advertise capabilities based on EPA mileage, not best possible mileage.

Yes. Thank you for clearing that up. I was also a little baffled by these estimates. I've been getting 500+ at around 10.3 gallons.
