I have 9000 miles on my '04 Prius and a few days ago the "warning light for no reason" glitch happened as I was turning into my driveway. I let it sit and restarted it three or four times and after that it was fine. The next day, the same thing happened-- the lights and "PROBLEM" came up along with the check engine-- at the exact same moment as the first day-as I was turning into my driveway. I let it reset again. Third day THE SAME THING HAPPENS. My driveway is flat and I don't whip into it at high speed or anything. I am inclined to think this is not just the computer glitch that happens to everyone, and I'm probably wrecking my car by driving it. But then why does it reset? (I am waiting for my oil change appointment on Monday to address this problem as the dealer is 50 miles away) NIKKI
I had the same thing happen. The 2004 Prius has a service bulletin out to reprogram the computer correct some sensor/software glitch. I got freaked out when the red triangle appeared. I drove the few miles back to my house without incident. Next day, when I started the car, I got the check engine light, but no red triangle. The dealer said that the computer will not permit the car to start if there is a serious malfunction, so not to worry. It's warranted, of course. Since it is not a safety issue, there has been no recall issued. Bob

Even though I could probably have driven quite a distance, according to my service guy, I'd have not felt comfortable going 50 miles. Is there another Toyota service dealer closer to you? If not, maybe you could call your dealer and get his take on what you should do.
