Hey PriusChat, I'm new here so consider this an formal hello for the first time. I've come here because I'm in the market for a first car, and I'm looking at the mainly the Civic, Fit, xD or Prius. I do like the Prius because of its great fuel economy and my sister says hatchbacks are very helpful during college from her experience. Anywho, my question is that during these year end sales, would there be any way to find a Generation III for 15-16k? My father says that salesman are trying to clear the inventory for the new models, as well as wanting to meet their quota before the year's end- both of these along with year-end sales should help haggling a lot. I know I could easily find a Gen II for that price but I do like the third generation noticeably more.

tl;dr: Will I be able to find a Gen III after Christmas for 15-16,000?

    Thanks for any help!

Possibly a used one with over 40,000 miles. They are likely to be rare.

Go to Ebay and see what the 'completed' sales numbers are. This will be your best guide:
    • $14,985 - 2009, 31k miles
    • $16,235 - 2009
    • $17,000 - 2010
    • $17,921 - 2007
    • $18,250 - 2010, 6,010 miles

No way for a new one, and not for a used one either unless it's very high mleage or was in a previous accident and fixed (aka "salvage title"). Sorry:(

Thanks a lot for the fast replies!

Well I would be looking at a used Prius either way. My parents are also looking to buy from a dealer and this is the one we're looking at- this one in particular.

EDIT: I guess I can't post links just yet, but if you want to see the dealer just Google, "Toyota of Sunnyvale".

As you can see, all Gen III are 20k+. Is there anything wrong with going to another dealer of a different company and buying it from there? In other words, if I can find a used Gen III at say, a Honda dealer for 16k would it be any different than buying it from the Toyota dealer? I would consider eBay if I was buying it with solely my money but they're putting forth the majority of the budget so that's not an option this time around.

Look everywhere. Stop by a Toyota dealer to get the Prius booklet so you'll be able to figure out the packages of the cars on the lot. Read through www.carbuyingtips.com and if you are a member use www.aaa.com to search for a car.
