I've just moved up from a 2007 Honda Civic Hybrid to a Prius Prime, and finding that I have have a lot to learn. Having been born way back during WWII, it's getting harder to remember exactly where I parked, so, when those senior moments happen, I have always pressed the 'lock" button on the key twice to get the civic to "yap" to give me a clue on which direction to head. Any way to do this on the Prius? ...I have learned that pressing "lock" multiple times doesn't do it. Thanks in advance, Beverly Howard
I was born in the age of Aquarius... And I've reached a point where I have to really take a beat and focus on where I've parked, marking several surrounding landmarks to orientate or I'll return to the parking lot and get that panicked feeling when I realize I have no idea where I'm parked. I use to just automatically remember. Now I have to actively work at remembering. The press the button to hear the honk or beep trick has never worked for me.
I'm an old fart, er senior citizen also with a "where is my car" episode every now and then. I just swallow what little pride I do have left and hammer down the "panic" button on the fob for a few moments. Unless I've wandered hopelessly beyond the fob range, the blaring horn and lights will quickly alert me to the general location. When I was a kid, Gulf oil gave motorists orange styrofoam balls (Gulf Trademark) that could be affixed to your radio antenna. A brilliant way to identify your car in a crowded lot... unitl EVERYONE else had the same plan (a sea of orange balls). PS: We loved our Honda hybrids, moving over to the Prius only after the Civic hybrid was no longer available.
Thanks for the responses... will put that on the dealer "next visit" list. >> and hammer down the "panic" button << I thought about that, but, with my luck, it would be at the limit of the fob range and "panic" would work, but stopping it would not ;-) Thanks again, Beverly
Bev. Welcome to PC "PriusChat" ! No matter what age, the 2020 Prime is a giant step forward from the HCH2 "Honda Civic Hybrid 2nd Generation. Realizing there is a lot to learn about the Prime is the first step in the journey we are all on. Take it one step at a time and the journey should be long and fruitful. The car will help you too. Treat your new gem with love and understanding and it will most undoubtedly return those same attributes to you. Edit: when putting the hammer down remember, practice makes fore perfect execution. Or see how far the fob works for you.
The Prius doesn't honk the horn when you lock it twice like a Honda does. It just beeps each time it's locked or unlocked. I think you can turn the volume up in a menu without visiting a dealer. But you might annoy your neighbors every time you get in your car if you set it too loud. I hate the beeping, but I leave it on at a low volume because otherwise I can't tell what the smart key is doing.
