just got my first 2005 Prius. It didn't come with any user manual so need a bit of help. it is a 2005 Prius with package 6 which is almost everything toyota had back then. HID lights , cd changer, navigation, smart key etc... Question: how does the light switch for the whole car works? it has 3 positions: 1. the bottom , completely off 2. the middle , stop lights are on 3. the top: headlights and everything else is on if I have the lights set to position 2 or 3 the lights DO NOT turn off after I lock the doors. If I have it on position 1 the headlights DO NOT turn ON when I turn on the car at night. is that a problem with my car or is that how its supposed to work.. it does not make sense to me since I think the car has sensor on the dashboard to check how light is outside and if the headlights hould turn on or not. how do I activate that ?
I sold my 2006 a few months ago when I bought the 2010 but I think this is right: Bottom, lights all off. Period. Next click is just the parking lights. Top click is parking lights with headlights as well. If you turn the car off with the headlights still on, after you turn it off and lock the doors, after something like 30 seconds the lights will turn off and then turn on again once the car is restarted. When the switch is down all the way with no lights, then the headlights will not come on even when the car is started. There is no automatic headlights on your car if it is a US model so never mind the sensor thing on the dash.
what is the second position with parking lights good for? So US people have the luxary of running with their lights on during the day huh? thanks for your fast answer... wish I could afford the 2010 model with the solar panel on top. I guess in 5 years i will buy a used of that hehe
Just for lighting up all the lights except for the headlights themselves... Anyone can run with their headlights on during the day if they chose to, can't they? I think some people do it as their form of daytime running lights... Yeah, it was either get the solar roof or go with a Prius V and get the advanced technology package... You can see which one I went with. I figured here in NYC, how many months would I really make use of the solar roof, maybe June July and August... The AT package I use all year round.
You should get both the Owner's Manual and the Scheduled Maintenance Guide, either online or from a dealer. They contain lots of stuff you need to know and will save you money and bother.
You can download a well put together users guide for the 2004-2009 iconic Prius here: John's Stuff - Toyota Prius User-Guide
thanks guys if you know anyone with an extra booklet I will buy it just to have it in the car. called the dealer and asked for price they didnt get back to me yet
It turns off if you open the driver's door (it's linked to the driver's door instead of the door locks). However, if you turn the lights on AFTER you shut down the car, they will not turn off and will drain the battery.
