Replaced the battery in the 2001 Prius keychain remote today. Saw a hidden button inside. Does anyone know what it does, if anything? See photo attached.
It sends a code that can be detected on the transponder line. Check the archives in "Prius Technical Suff" or do some Google searches. One early pioneer used a microcontroller to monitor the line and was thinking about doing some 'neat stuff' with it. The only thing I've thought of was to use it to raise the windows on the car . . . instead of running through a rain shower. Then I realized I'd rather detect the rain and have the car raise the windows by itself. <grins> In theory, any keyfob activated function could be started. BTW, I've had key fob operation from over 100 yards in good conditions (clear line of sight and no fence, shrubs or cars in between. Bob Wilson
I could hazard a guess, the same factory that made these for Prius also made for other Toyota remotes, and some of those may have had the "remote trunk unlock" button. I initially thought it could have been like a RESET button, but the I/C pattern that I could kinda sort of make out didn't lead me down that path... Kyle 02 Prius Freshly painted. pictures to come.
