Absolute newbie here and I apologize in advance, but I've tried search to no avail. Don't have a Prious yet but I'm researching. If the first version of the Prius (sold only in Japan, model years '97-'99) was called "original", second version ('00-'04) was called "Classic", third version version ('04-'09) was called "Iconic", then what is the '10-'11 version called? And why is the second version ('00-'04) called "Gen I" instead of "Gen II"? I confused I guess.
In the US we didn't see the original version. When the second US version came out we started calling them Gen I and II and so on. Nothing more than being misinformed and or lazy. Prius Chat had similar problems when the Gen III came out. People had used the trim categories I, II, III etc. Now we had a problem when someone refereed to a Prius III. Was it a Gen III or a Gen II with Trim level III?
You could be precise by using the Model codes: NHW10: 1997-1999 Prius in Japan NHW11: 2001-2003 US Prius NHW20: 2004-2009 US Prius NZW30: 2010- ???? US Prius JeffD
Thanks guys. I'm trying to bone up on all this and can tell this is a good place for info. So no "nickname" for the NZW30 yet?
