Each gen 3 photo is followed by a similar gen 4 photo.

I am thinking the slant in the rear windows has to do with more cargo space whereas the EPA methods may allow calling the space below the window line cargo space

Yikes, at every angle the Gen 4 looks hideous compared to the Gen 3 except for the rear quarter window. Gen 4 gets glass but Gen 3 gets a cheap blacked out plastic. Even the side mirror shape in the Gen 4 gets a tacky looking crease on it as if someone took the Gen 3 mirror and sat on it, bending it on the sides.

The Gen 4 has a rising interior belt line as as the front of the door panel meets the dash, whereas the belt line of the Gen 3 stays flat. I feel as if I'm sitting in a deeper tub when sitting in the Gen 4.

Today I spent some time at my local Toyota dealer. They had several 2016 Prius parked next to new 2015s. It was fun to take a look at the evolution of the new model. Some have said the 2016 looks better in person than the pictures. To me it looked the same as the photos. I liked the glass layout better than the 2015 with the smaller pillar in the front.

The rear seemed a bit overdone to my eyes with too much going on. I really did not like the interior white trim. The seats looked great. Overall I found it nice and a step forward.

I expect there will be some aftermarket replacement parts for the white trim either vacuum plated or in black eventually. I can't be the only one who thinks that the white trim looks like a cheap dime store object.

Who will be the first to wallpaper theirs? Drawer liners? Cover it with stickers from your journeys (like a wooden trunk)

I like the Prius not only because it very fuel efficient,I also like it because its different to other cars .
I will leave the white center console as it is,because it's unique !
If it gets yellow in time I can allways cover it up with the black acessoorie, but til then the white center console is something which once again separates the Prius from the mostly boring rest out there .

You're not alone. There was a crowd who preferred Gen 2 when Gen 3 was revealed. That's to be expected.

As for those who look forward to the rest of the industry playing catch up, the usual move away from the existing style to something with greater emphasis is an expectation... Prius being among the leaders. We've seen the styling progression with other vehicles from other automakers. Look back at how bland older generations look in comparison. It's quite interesting to see that history.

I do commend Toyota for taking chances as of late in regards to the large spindle grill on Lexus that slowly trickled into the Camry, Prius C and Prius V. Capitol Vee because I don't care. I was expecting the controversial trend to continue into the Mirai and Gen 4 but oh well. Both designs are polarizing.

Well if they went conservative, people will say "oh it's the same boring Toyota". If they go bold, they say "it's ugly". So as far as I'm concerned, I just take the design as is and commend them for making it unique. The fact that people are talking about it means they've made meaningful changes.

There are also cultural differences between Japan and North America. (The most obvious is the white pearl interior trim)

I am really happy about my choice of color - the blizzard pearl exterior and the white pearl interior couldn't be better!
