O.K. , so I am considering getting a factory Toyota remote start kit installed for my 2011 gen 3 .
Went online, and found a VERY readily available Toyota OEM , "Toyota VIP Remote Engine Start Kit" Toyota part # PT398-47110 . There are TONS of them available for sale online , new OEM .
I would have no problem installing this myself, but alas , I do not have the Toyota Techstream to update the Prius computer to make it work ........ so I am stuck with the Toyota stealership .
SO ...............decided , I would just let my local Toyota Dealer (which I HATE ) do the install for me , and of coarse purchase the factory Toyota Remote Start kit from them as well .
Man , do I hate this Dealership ............. The service advisor VERY QUICKLY tells me that it is not available for the gen 3 Prius anymore, so they cant install one.
What, really ??? I tell him the factory Toyota part is available online everywhere and even gave him the part # for the kit. He doesnt even bother to check, just says sorry, they cant do it, as its unavailable. ! Ugghh , I remember there was a reason I didnt want to buy a car from them ! Figured I would give them some service business , but that aint going to happen now either .

Can anyone confirm if this is still an option for the gen 3 Prius , specifically a 2011. I am looking to have the factory Toyota remote start kit part # PT398-47110 installed so I can use my factory Prius key fobs .
I can see there are TONS of them available online, but apparently my local dealer says NLA . Ughhh I hate that dealer . I may have to drive 1/2 hour away to a GOOD Toyots dealer to find out if this is doable.

    Any help or info ?

    Thanks !

Change Toy. service dealers and made another inquire. Also, try providing the remote start components to them.
    just my 2 cents

O.K. , did some more checking with a dealer that is about 1/2 hour + drive away . Great dealer, and its where I purchased my Tacoma from. a few years back
Absolutely NO problem installing a remote start kit for my 2011 Prius, whether I purchase the kit from them or not. It just has to be the factory Toyota kit . They did check, and the correct Toyota remote start kit is still totally available. They could have it in a day or 2.
The kit is $399. from the dealer, or I can get it online for about $250. Either way , they will install it.

Wow , talk about a different experience.

Kind of sad really, how my local Toyota Dealer is so high on themselves that they would downright lie to customers. They flat out refused to even look if it was something they could do or if the kit was actually available. Never even looked it up. They could not say "we cant do that" fast enough. Kind of shocked me actually. Blamed it on Toyota for a NLA part. I guess it goes to show, that there are good dealerships, and bad ones.

I will say this, I am considering getting a 2016 Prius for the wife, and can you guess what dealer i WONT be buying it from .
I dont care if they are only 5 minutes from my house and/or have a slightly better price . Just bad customer service.

So, I think I will order the Toyota Remote start kit online (because I have some extra $$$ in my paypal account), and have my far away "local" dealer do the install for me. They quoted 4 hours @ $85. per hour, so $340. installed, which includes the techstream updates, AND they will turn off that constantly beeping back up tone, to a 1 beep system included. They have a tech on staff who does ALL of the remote start kits, so at least I feel confident it will be done right.
Hopefully a loaner car since I purchased the Taco from them.

Now to order that kit ................. (that my local dealer says is NLA !)

You could probably get a aftermarket one installed for less that $250. It will work the same way.

Due to how the factory remote start functions, I would be concerned about it shortening the life of the lock actuators. Also, it only works from a short distance.
While inconvenient to have a 2nd remote, I'm going to have an aftermarket model installed and only carry the extra remote during cold weather. Better function, less wear and tear on the actuators, and lower price.

I had a similar experience earlier this year with John Deere garden tractor dealers. The closest dealer, about 5 minutes from my house, would only quote list price and said the combination I wanted was not available.
I drove about 45 minutes and saved hundreds on my chosen combination. Their free delivery drove right past the local dealer.
