Laaaadiiiieeessss and Gentlemen, may I have your attention please!!! I now present to you..... the very best in HV batteries for the Gen 2 Prius. Other than new from Toyota, you will find NO better.

Like a phoenix rising from the ashes, we have a Gen 2 HV battery, reborn on January 16, 2018, rejuvenated by Gen 4 HV battery modules selflessly donated by a 2016 Prius taken out of service while entirely too young. Although violently removed from our roads months ago, and with less than 11,000 miles of experience, this wonderful vehicle was able to donate many components to help others lead fuller lives. To this, we salute you, Mr. 2016 Prius....

    Here's a run down:

Gen 2 HV battery. It is a direct bolt in for any 2004-2009 Prius

    (28) Gen 4 modules serial #s 083R9S00254Y through 260Y, 221Y through 240Y and 281Y. (decodes to manufactured on 3/08/2016)

All 28 modules are within 0.01 volts of one another.

Brand new voltage sensor harness and main cables.

Photos provided showing excellent condition of ECU pins, serial numbers, new harnesses, etc.

Located in Columbia, SC. I have installed batteries in forum members Prii as far away as Raleigh, Charleston, Atlanta, Savannah, Knoxville, and Jacksonville. If you're within that area, you're in my range. Outside that range is up for discussion.

$1800 delivered and installed + your old battery. Three year guarantee.
If you have other issues with your car, I'd be happy to discuss them with you. If I'm able to help with them, I'll let you know.

I will be heading to Gatlinburg, TN for a few days starting Jan 22.

    Here's how it goes down:
This battery will be installed in my 2007 for testing.
I will drive the car to the purchasers location (with this battery still installed and a spare in my trunk)
I will perform a health check of your 12v battery using a handheld 12v battery electronic load tester.
I will connect techstream to the purchasers car. We will do a health check on the car. We can look at anything you'd like, if it's within my ability.
I will remove this battery from my car and remove your battery from your car.
If desired, I will remove the battery cover to allow your inspection/verification of components.
I will install this battery into your car and my spare battery into my car. I may install your old battery into my car for road testing during the trip back.
I will remove your cooling fan and clean it, or install a pre-cleaned one which I will have with me. Customers choice.
After the HV battery is installed and cooling fan is complete, we will take the car for a drive while monitoring via techstream. Once we've had our fun with techstream, we can connect an OBD bluetooth adapter and do some additional monitoring if desired. This testing will include full throttle acceleration and eyeball blood vessel bursting braking. The customer will be driving, so the only limits are what you are willing to put the car through.
After the test drive, the rear interior will be reinstalled.

I would argue it is better than new unless they are now putting the Gen 4 modules in their new Gen 2 batteries.
Toyota has stated they improved the battery for Gen 4 by using a higher grade of Nickel.

Those modules have less miles than my 2017.

Wow! I wish I was living nearby......I’d be beating a path to your door, screaming “Take my money...!!!”

But, humour aside, that’s going to be one amazing custom battery pack, and ALL Toyota! Nice. I would love to know how it performs once installed in a Gen 2.

p.s. Somebody somewhere could make a killing building custom Gen 2 HV batteries, using brand new Gen 4 cells!

Todd from Tampa Hybrids did one a while ago. Last I heard it was running fine.

We have some wintery mix of rain and snow hitting the ground in Columbia right now, but if it clears up, I plan to install this battery into my car this evening. Knock out a little 50 mile road trial, and a quick load test if I'm able. I'll post results ASAP.

Battery is now installed in my 2007 for real life road testing to verify proper operation. Took it for drive about 10 miles to Dairy Queen, where the wife and I enjoyed a banana split while a bit of snow and rain started falling again. Drove 10 miles back home, let it sit for about 10 minutes and did a basic load test. Car was warmed up, headlights on high, in reverse with a bit of throttle, AC on lowest temperature setting and fan on high with all windows open.

Overall, graphs look pretty good for a battery that's been out of service for months and had only two ten mile drives under it's belt prior to the test. The initial variations are probably from me messing with the setup trying to load it up. The voltage curves have a couple spots where everything smooths out. Not sure what causes those spikes, but I see it in almost all the tests. Maybe it's the AC loading and unloading or something similar. Or maybe its just due to me fidgeting around. It was cold lol. The average deltaV is sitting at a 0.08 which is pretty nice. The capacity estimate looks a bit whacked. The block voltage curves and delta V curves are what I look at for the most part.

Hmmmmmm this is an excellent deal, it's about an 11 hour trip down to Columbia from here though.

Raleigh or Gatlinburg would likely be closer.

Is this offer still available? My battery is getting tired.

Is Huntersville NC within range? I have a friend there.

    Thanks, Tom

    Tom,

This battery was installed in another members car about a month ago. BUT....I just built one this weekend using virgin modules from a 2016 gen 3 battery that was still in its Toyota shipping container. It also has all new harnesses/busbars. All 28 modules read 7.66 volts. I was going to post it on the forum last night, but ended up being busy with some friends and the Celtics/Cavaliers game. I could offer the same deal for this battery as the one in this thread. I'll be installing it in my 2007 today for a bit of road testing. I'll send you my contact info.

    Huntersville, NC is no problem.

Was used to build this Gen 2, + new Toyota Gen 2 wire/sensor/busbar harness, cables, etc......

The only real difference between this Gen 2 and one straight from Toyota is that my steel case and the temperature sensor harness are from a previous battery.

Why not sell it as a Gen 3 battery pack? Much less work for you. ;)

Not very many Gen 3 are out of warranty yet compared to Gen 2. Much bigger market for Gen 2. For now. That will gradually change.

    Jim,

I'll be going up/back to NYC from Atlanta first week of July. I could pass through Columbia on the way there. Would you be willing to run diagnostics on my 2010 battery on one of those weekend days and how much would you charge for that?

    Bob,
I'm sure we can work that out. As an alternative, I'll be in McDonough, Ga tomorrow (Wednesday). My wife has a 1pm appointment at a shop there for a portrait. I'll have a handful of hours (or more) to kill. Was probably going to hit the Pull-a-part up near Norcross, which may be close to you. I'll take my laptop, cable, OBD adapter and android on the trip.

As for cost.....nothing but our time.

    That's a re
That's a really generous offer, Jim, thank you. But...I have to work tomorrow from 9-6, and Norcross is about 45 minutes away from Kennesaw., so I can't make it there and back on my lunch hour. And, you have a hell of a lot of driving ahead if you're going to make a round trip to SC in a day.

It's going to be fairly easy for me to detour to Columbia on my way to NYC, though, if you have some time then.
