Gas Prices Prompting Interest in Hybrids

    Excerpts:

"Although gas prices are creeping back up to and above $3 per gallon, area car dealerships are not seeing much change in the type of vehicles residents are purchasing, but they are seeing an increased interest in hybrid vehicles...

Robinson noted Toyota’s hybrids get better gas mileage in the city rather than on the highway and the Prius is their most popular seller. He said the Camry hybrid just came out, but noted he has sold three already.

He said purchasing a hybrid can be expensive but the higher gasoline prices go, the quicker people will see a return for their money. A Prius, he noted, sells for about $24,000. A regular Camry sells for about $21,200 and the hybrid for about $26,700.

Maintenance on a hybrid car, according to Dan Reusser of Ken’s Toyota service department, is much better than on a regular car. He said the parts and fluids have a super long life. Hybrid parts come with an eight-year, 100,000 mile warranty, he noted, including the electric battery."

So much for that Autoextremist study...

Oddly, there's another article indicating that the sales of hybrids is dropping. Does this mean that we can't trust the media? :D
