Yea, I've had the same problem a couple of times on my 06. All knowledge is on this forum, can't wait.

Did they change this for 06? The only button I can find by the gas cap on my 05 is the release for the door. I have never had a problem and the nozzles seem to fit with room to spare. Are the nozzles different where you live?

Just went out and looked again, the only thing in there besides the gas cap is the release pin. This button must be new for 06, as is the problem apparently.

Or it's possible that the release pin was mistaken for a button. :)

Keeping this on topic, that hasn't been a problem with me. Has this happened with different pumps or different stations?

stanlwyjohn, your Prius did not grow a gas-nozzle capture feature overnight. If you never had this problem before, then either that gas pump nozzle is defective or somehow your gas tank inlet was damaged. Try another gas pump.

Just went a checked my 3 week old Prius has the button. I have only filled up once and the only problem I had was with getting the pump to stay on, it kept shutting off until I finally found just the right position. Maybe the button has something to do with this. ANYBODY KNOW FOR SURE THE MISTERY OF THE LITTLE BLACK BUTTON ??????????

It looks to me like the release pin for the door. I don't think it's a button at all. I have a 2005 and it has one. My 1990 Ford Probe had one like that too (which also had a release lever on the floor by the driver).

You may be right! (AAF) Looks like a button!but could be a release for the gas door.Dahhh!! no wonder pushing it dosnt seem to do anything  .This was my second refill since i got the car. Both times at the same station.First time slight hesatation in removing the nozzle. The nozzle has suction cup that i think is used on newer pumps to make a good seal and avoid vapor release while pumping. It seemed to work too well today!such a good seal it was very hard to remove.Lots of play!nozzle was moving freely while i tryed to wriggle it free.Does this make any sense??

I'm not finding anything about that in the repair manual. I'm also not finding anything about the release for the gas door. Maybe i'm just searching for the wrong terms.

Until I got used to how to pull the nozzle out, I experienced this. I have now put 22K miles on the car with numerous fillups.

The hole for the nozzle is tight....if you try to pull out the nozzle at an angle, it "sticks". Move the nozzle around and see how it 'grabs"...then learn the right angle to pull it out.

    Just my thoughts.

I showed it to my wife and she immediately said it was the release pin. If you look at the door itself you can see the piece of metal sticking out that the pin goes into. The spring allows it to pop back into place when you close the door.

I almost said it was to push if you had a complaint and it sent a signal to Toyota. Push it to your hearts content.

Seems that everyone is talking about two different things. Yes there is a release pin where the door meets the car body, but on my 2006 there is also a black button that is located at the rear by the gas cap on the black plastic circle. Would take a picture but the wife has my camera !!! What this is, is yet unknown ...

I have an 05, but, I did have a problem the first few times I filled up. The problem I had was that I put the nozzle all the way in to the tank as far as it would go and ended up creating a vaccum. When I tried to remove the nozzle I had to push and pull a few times to break the vaccum. Now I don't push the nozzle all the way into the neck of the tank - I stop just short of that and have not had a problem since.

    I stand corrected. :)

Yes, we need a photo for more clarification. It's interesting that this topic has come up so late in the year. I would've expected comments as soon as someone got a 2006.

Well might as well get my two cents in too. There is a rubber seal in the nozzel filler hole that may cause the nozzel to get stuck while pumping gas. I have had the same problem. A solution that I found, was not to shove the pump nozzell all the way in the filler hole, or try a little vasoline on the rubber ring...this may help.

Good Luck, and Happy Motoring

That's my solution too. I just don't put the nozzle in all the way (about 2/3) and it comes out pretty easily.

If the " PUSH ALL U WANT " button is really a door release, how does it possible work! I'm not saying it is not, I just can't figure it out, and think it must be something else !!!!
