The gas gauge on my prius hasn't worked in awhile. It just blinks on empty constantly. I tried all the reset tricks. The dealer says the entire tank needs to be replaced and quoted me a price of $2,400. Any thoughts on that? Has anyone had the same problem? What was the cost to fix? Any non-dealer prius mechanics to recommend in the DC area?
You can go on car-part.com and find a junkyard near you that has it. I believe slight difference on 2004 and 2005. So probably just match the year. I know the 2005 gas tank would not fit our 2009. You can get aftermarket for around $800 or new from dealership for about $1300. And it calls for 3 hours labor. Can be under $500 repair if you get a used one (they go for about $75)
How many miles on the car and how much longer would you like to keep it for? Might be worth it to just keeping resetting the trip and filling up every 250 miles or so like you have probably been doing
Everytime that I have seen a fuel gauge do that, the fault was the sending unit and tank replacement was required to fix it. Get a multimeter and a copy of the service manual then you could remove the back seat and confirm it yourself. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
