Gas Engine Doesn't Start !!!

    Hi Everyone! I just got a project, I have bought Prius c without engine tranny and hybrid system. So i bought another engine with tranny and hybrid; got it installed to my car! When I plugged in 12V battery, the FAN turned ON, and stays On all the time !!! When I press START button, screen info appears, but the GAS ENGINE DOESN'T START!!! What can cause this problem??? Any body has any suggestion???

    This is going to be tough, there's no guarantee the parts you put in were working parts to begin with. My best suggestion, you get a mini vci with tech stream and start there

    I have X431 iDiag Scan tool, do you think I can use it to scan all the errors on the car? I never used Mini VCI

    any scan tool that can read Prius specific codes will work.

    On your HV battery connection (the orange lever), did you lock it in? Flip the lever up and then PUSH DOWN to lock it into place? Your car will not start unless that orange lever is locked into place.

    All that I remember about the Orange Cable, is that there is one cable that goes from the Hybrid Battery, which I had to unscrew inside of this Hybrid Box ( above the transmission, i believe its inverter, maybe not), there were 2 bolts that were holding this cable. I dont remember anything else dealing with this orange cable.

    It's not the cable. It's the lever to power up the HV battery. You would have to disconnect it in order to work on the car (so you don't kill yourself). To power it back up, you would have to put in the orange lever. Not really certain on the Prius C, but on a regular prius, looking straight at it from the rear of the car, the lever would be on the left side of the battery.

    Disconnecting the lever would disconnect the HV power to the car, connecting it would power it back up. Do you remember this lever?

    Oh, wow, this is something i didnt know, when I got the car, it had no engine, and no power whatsoever, so I didnt disconnect anything on the back left. So, I assume someone before me disconnected this, I will certainly check it out. All I did is put new engine and tranny, connected all the cables on front and put coolant to radiator and hybrid system. Thats all!

    There is a HV battery back there right? You mentioned engine, tranny, inverter........how about the hv battery pack?

    You are correct! The battery is on place. I assume something happened to the Engine so they took it out and never fixed it, so i got it without the engine. All I noticed on the back, is that on the regular 12V battery NEGATIVE cable was removed, so when I installed the engine I connected it back.

    yes there is a problem with loading pictures, there's a glitch in the system.

    Did you do this work yourself? You would know if you put in a hv battery, the heart of a hybrid system.

    I believe this is what you mean by "lever up and then PUSH DOWN to lock it into place".

    Yes I did all the work myself. My dad is Professional mechanic for many year, so as I helped him alittle when i was younger, I learned some mechanic principles. So this job was relatively easy for me, however this is what happened when I was ready to start the Engine.

    that is correct. Many people miss the "push down" to lock into place and the car never starts.

    I was working before on some German cars, and each German car has tranny computer and engine computer right on the engine, and if you swap the engine, it wont start until you reprogram whole system, its some kind of security for the car. Do you think Toyota doesn't have something like this???? So if i swapped the engine it should start with no problems?

    Everything has to be correct before the hybrid system will start. There are many ecu's that control the car, if anything doesn't add up correctly, the car will not start. Have you checked the 12v battery and it's good as well?

    Yes, the 12V battery is good, because as soon as i connect the NEG cable, cooling fan turns ON

    that is not an indicator it's good. Check the voltage on it and see if it's above 12 volts. A full charged 12v battery should be 12.9 volts.

    I don't have the expertise to trouble shoot the car, you seem you know quite a bit yourself. However the hybrid system is very tricky, anything that the ecu's detect is not correct, will prevent the car from starting.

    If the basic battery stuff passes, then you would have to read the codes to hopefully pinpoint the problems.
