Gas diff my Prius/wife’s sienna hybrid Amazing the technology difference

I am hoping Toyota will make Sienna Prime sometime. I thought about the Sienna Hybrid to replace our Pathfinder Hybrid, but the price and availability made us rethink. We had a 2005 Sienna. The life time average mpg was below 20mpg.

Are these numbers all calculated, or displayed, or a mix. Maybe they upped the BS factor a bit on the Sienna display?

Here's Transport Canada comparison, of 2022 Sienna and 2012 Prius. There was no separate rating for plug-in on the 2012, and I believe ALL 2022 Sienna are hybid? Anyway:

The combined ratings are:

2012 Prius: 4.8 (liters/100km)
2022 Sienna: 6.6

Translates to:

2012 Prius: 49.0 (mpg US)
2022 Sienna: 35.6

 

That answers the questions for me. See the posts from last year about new Primes on 90 mph daily commutes with high mpgs. Not sure how history data kept in the ECU's will change those numbers over time on the daily commutes, and I do wish some of those members would confirm if they still see those high mpgs a year or two later.
Same goes for long road trips I'd think. I for one haven't been able to see my first 800 mile trip south at 72 mpg, since. The Prime still doubles the mileage per tank / fillup, of my other 06 hybrid on that same route south, filling up just shy or Richmond, VA. (480 miles) instead of having to stop in Duncannon, PA (250 miles) and speed range between 65 and 85 mph.

 

Driving at those speeds on the highway, I doubt the battery can add that much to the fuel economy.
It's mostly aero drag and mini van vs Prius???

Are your number from paper and pencil or from that display?
Maybe really strong tail winds in both directions of the trip? It can happen!

I fore one would have to know more about the sienna specs.
One post with a few details about one trip is informative and it's usually / always fun to share exceptional comparisons in mpg in this forum. Model? 2 motors or 3? wheels size? current ODO? typical driving besides the one trip?
Lots of data not shared can help in understanding the great results noticed on the trip in the sienna when compared to the typical results in the older prius.

And the new toyota atkinson engines approaching 45% efficiency can give some strangely unique results, especially in the first year or two.

My PiP cost an average of $3.71/100 miles for gas and electric. The Prime is $2.96/100 miles for gas & electric. I've taken the Prime on WAY more road trip miles and that has inflated the cost per mile. (Without road trips, it's under $2/100 miles.) But that's because the Prime's seat doesn't leave me in tears after 500 miles like the PiP did. Plus the Prime is vastly quieter. It's not perfect by any means, but it's a stupendous upgrade. One more thing: I only got 3.97 miles/kWh on the PiP. My Prime is getting 5.1. Just no comparison.

My wife's 2017 trim 2 is getting about 55-60 mpg in town (and she has lots of short trips) compared to the PiP's 50-55 in town in hybrid mode. And it has the same comfort upgrades as my Prime.

 

i'm not sure of anything, but anecdotal evidence is all we have to go by, like the o/p.

the only thing you can quibble with is 'don't have MUCH improvement'. which is self defined i suppose.

in context to my response however, we'd all have to do some bwilson controlled testing at 80-85 mph

 

I've wanted to experience how far the Prime goes in EV at 84 mph since early on. I have to drive a couple hundred miles west or south before I reach 75-80 mph traffic flow and by than I don't really care how far the car goes in EV mode.
