Featured Future of new ICE engines

wonderful, it's about time

 

I just drove a rented Dodge Challenger R/T for a few days. Wow. Nice car. Quick. Responsive. and that Hemi engine, what a nice sound when you stomp on it. I now hate my 2014 Prius. But I'll get over it the next time I fill up.

 

I think GM and Ford are both moving resources to EV, not new engines and transmissions. Not surprising.

Ford isn't killing hybrids. The 2020 Explorer unveiled in January has a hybrid option; the Lincoln sibling will have PHEV one. As the new Explorer is RWD, the rumor mill has this system as the one going into the Mustang and F150.

The Fusion hybrid is still available as a 2019 model.

Going by that statement, Toyota is killing the Rav4 hybrid with its future unclear, too. The last gen is dead, and the new one is just reaching dealers, if it has been shipped.

Ford is ending most of their cars in the US, not killing current hybrids. The Fusion hybrid and Energi are why the model will be one of the last to go.

The 2020 Explorer has a build page. The hybrid isn't up, but that is because to full details on it is being released at the New York International Auto Show this month. I'm hoping for teases about an Escape PHEV then.

if the rav4h is not being made yet, i agree, we can say it is unclear. lots of companies make claims and promises that they don't follow through on. the proof is always in the pudding.

 

I thought they just introduced the 2019 Rav 4 Hybrid when they introduced the 2019 Corolla Hybrid?

 

They did, but did not ship them out with the ICE models. If a hybrid model not being on a Ford lot right now means their plans are unclear, then lets apply the same standard to everyone.

Ford has had a committed history with hybrids. Lack of models to date had more to do with battery/transaxle supplies, the company's financial health, and decline of the actual car segment in the US than lack of interest in hybrids. They have had a hybrid offering of some type since the introduction of the first Escape one, and the Fusion will be available until the Explorer arrives.

 

I'm following the Rav4h forums and they are just now reaching the US. A very few have taken delivery. Only one on fuelly yesterday and only 4 reports. Not enough to form a trend but promising for a wagon/SUV.

 

Chevy still offers the Malibu Hybrid, which uses the Volt transmission.
