I have had no problems with my 2006 Prius, but today I noticed the stitching on the upper back of the drivers seat is starting to separate. The location is where two pieces of fabric are sewn together. I looked very closely and the thread is not torn.

Can I take the back seat cover off ,and is it easy to do? I would then take it to an upholstery shop to be sewn.

    Thank you.

I suggest that you take the entire car (not just the seat cover) to the upholstery shop so that they can take the cover off and fix it for you. I believe that the cover is secured with metal rings that are not particularly easy to replace.

The other issue is that removing the headrest sleeves (the plastic part that the headrest inserts into) is not very easy to do. I did it on a Corolla seat, but I wouldn't recommend it unless you are mechanically inclined and quite determined. The instructions to remove the seat cover can be found in the seat section of the factory manual.

If the car is no longer under warranty, take it to a professional upholstery shop. There are side airbags in there also.

Thank you for the help. I took it to the upholstery shop and they said leave it alone. They have seen worse.
