front passenger seat makes annoying squeeking sounds

Mine does it too but I can't tell for sure if it's the seat or the seat belt (doesn't seem to happen when someone is in the passenger seat)

 

If it's still under warranty, take it to the dealership and make them chase down the squeak and eliminate it.

 

are you sure it's the front seat? the rear seats have to really be pushed back into place hard for them to lock, and that can result in a rather annoying squeak.

if you're sure it's the front, then bring it back to the dealer and have someone fix it. that's not necessary in a new car, that's for sure.

What timing!
I just noticed my car doing this for the first time (yesterday), in about six weeks of ownership.
I've installed seat covers on my front seats.
I then put an "armorall"-like protectant on the surfaces, so I thought maybe this was making that noise, but it seems to be coming from down around the hinge (door side) for the seat-back.
Boy it's annoying! I'll take a look when I get some spare time.
If anyone comes up with a fix, please pass it on.

The other day I went out and sprayed some silicone-with-Teflon lube on the seatback hinge (doorside).
All was silent for 2 days, now it's back.
Must be plastic against plastic. I'm hoping it'll wear in.

I recently downloaded all the relevant Prius TSB's with my 1 day subscription to TIS the other day... here's your problem solver... see attachment.

Interestingly enough, I've never experienced this. (or haven't noticed it)

Wow I just wish it wasn't that involved.
I might try to "ride mine out" and see if it goes away on it's own.

And, ...the time (1/2 hr), allotted for this, seems way too short.

This is why I HATE warranty repairs, unless absolutely necessary.

I can see a few things being glossed over on this one.

As mine is only happening on one seat, I may try this one myself.
Nay, ...I just had another look at the remedy, and on second thought, I'm not touching this one!

 

Well, I'm not convinced the problem described in the TSB is necessarily what you're hearing.

In my case, it was the seat cushion [only when the seat was unloaded] rubbing against the outer plastic trim piece on the side of the seat, closest to the door. I inserted some foam in there, just enough to hold the seat material away from the trim, and the noise has gone away and not come back.

Whenever the seat is occupied, the noise disappeared. Anyway, in my case, it had nothing to do with the attaching hardware, and the TSB, while interesting, would not have helped.

 

To see if that pin is the problem, just unbolt, squirt some oil/grease down there and see if that makes it go away. That may very well be all that you have to do. It is certainly what I'll try first. After seven months, mine just started doing this today!

Just be sure that you have a torque wrench to correctly tighten the bolts. This is a safety critical item. The service manual calls out the correct torque (I seem to remember 24 or 27 ft-lbs, I'm at work and can't check). A search of this forum should turn up the correct number.


EDIT: I checked, it is 27 ft-lbs. See Page SE-10 of the service manual.

Checked mine today - has nothing to do with those locating pins. Had EVERYTHING to do with the outboard plastic panel below the seat cushion. Was just rubbing something else plastic under it. I shot some silicone lube in there and solved the problem.

 

Hmmmm....I think I mentioned that back on Sept 5....

This is why I love PriusChat! I just started hearing this same noise about a week ago (2 month old Prius, 3K miles). I'll check it out today to see exzactly where it is coming from.

My passenger seat noise was from the seat's side trim piece rubbing on the seat hinge. I removed it and put electrical tape over the areas where I could it was rubbing on. I ended up breaking on of the clips to the trim piece. It was only after getting it off did I see that I didn't need to do that, as there is a screw holding another cover where the clip is attached.
