Can a front license plate be installed on the Prius c? If so, how?

    Thanks!

Perhaps it's because I live in a state where front license plates are required, but I received mine with front plates (well, no plates yet, but you know). I assume the dealer added it when it arrived from Japan, but I don't know.

Not sure how well you can see it, but it's only screwed in at the top. (ETA: Then again, it's only screwed in at the top of the back one too)

There are dimples where the screws go. Just take a drill and make the holes. Use the plate to make sure, measure twice, cut once!

Is it measure twice cut once or measure once cut twice? I can never remember. I think you need to make that plate more aero, Ashley. It's slowin ya down.

Actually Toyota usually has the bumper itself tapped for screws. The bumper cover then is applied ontop of the bumper and if needed you just drill through the cover and put the screws into the aforementioned tapped screw holes.

The screws that go there are M6 or 6mm metric. Use a 7/32" or "A" letter dril to drill out the bumper cover at the "dimples," and you'll be fine.

That doesn't seem to be the case with the Prius C. When I took off my dealer plate on the front, the screws felt and looked like they were only going into plastic.

I gotta say, I would just have the dealer do it. Even if they are not required in your state I feel the dealer has a certain responsibility

    in a way.. yes..

but all they do is drill holes into the plastic bumper... that's how it's mounted... i'd rather have the dealership not install them and have people choose whether or not they want them to mount it..

it would help save a lot of people from grief.. for those who decide to willingly take the chance of not running a front plate.. so they do not have to worry about holes in the front bumper.

there's an entire market for people who want to fill in those holes... whether it be painted plugs, or a patch job from a body shop.. some people really want that aesthetic look of not having a front plate.

Regarding filling the holes, I was able to find some cheap black nylon license plate screws at autozone. It's a great option if your C is black, not so much otherwise.

For those of us that are not required to have a front plate, where can you get a finishing plate to fill the notch, in the proper color and contour? My G35 came with one in the matching color.

there isn't one that's made for the Prius C that I know of... it would be nice to have though.

hmm.. perhaps a future project in the works.. though.. how i would want to make them... i would require a vacuform.. and i don't have one of those.. ahh poop.

My Prius c dealer informed me that, of course, a front license plate was a state requirement (which I already knew), but the dealer had the audacity to drill the front for 1/4" self-tapping screws, and then install his advertising, and which completely distorted the underlying metal parts as his heavy-handed installers over-tightened these screws after drilling too small a hole.

The only reason I did not refuse to accept the car was: 1) I did not know they had done such a botch-job until, several weeks later, I received the plates from the DMV and removed the dealer's advertising, and 2) with the license actually installed, you cannot see the distortion in the underlying metal.

The proper action would have been to install an M6 "thread-sert", and to supply M6 screws (same as used on the rear) ... before delivering the car.

I believe this is really a Toyota problem, as they should know that cars shipped into California, which is likely where Toyota sells most of its cars, are going to have to be adapted to local laws.

There are two sets of dimples: 1) for most North American-standard plates (narrower, but tall), and 2) for "others" (short but wider).
