Mechanic said my front brake pads were worn, but refuses to only change the pads. $800. Is it safe to just change the pads?

Did the mechanic state any reason for not just replacing the pads? What other work is in that estimate?

Sometimes the rotors develop rust and that rust eats away the pads. Changing only the pads in that situation will eat away the new ones.

Even if you bought good rotors today 60 a pop top line pads say 60 bux set. It's about 55 min to literally slap those parts on car without lift . I've done the 10 and 13 no issues no bleeding.

He wants $800 USD to install just new pads? $250~400 is more typical. The Toyota pads, with a fresh shim kit and the clips at the ends, retail for maybe $150 USD. At most, and mechanics will maybe get discount. What kind of pads was he proposing to use.

How many miles on the vehicle?

Can you inspect your own pads?
