    From boston.com:

    I found this part interesting:
Ford! (and others)! if you deliver a plug-in Ford Edge around 2009 under 50.000 then I will buy one. It is the size of car my family needs (soon) as we have two large dog and see a kid in our future. This, assuming no other manufacturer beats you to it, or even better give me a similar sized pure electric car (say the RAV IV?) with a range of at least 100 miles.

Under $50K ?? I thought they're still trying to make fuel cel vehicles for under a MILLION
Isn't that like Orville & Wilbur Wright trying to make a Space Shuttle for their first airplane? At least Ford was smart enough to buy the rights to Toyota's hybrid technology, so they could get their little SUV up and running and onto the hybrid playing field.

Again, Ford cross-licensed the hybrid system with Toyota. In return, Toyota gets to use some of of Ford's patented diesel technology.

Ford legitimately came up with their own hybrid technology that happened to resemble Toyota's THS I. This is why Ford is still using basically THS I technology with the larger/lower-capacity batteries instead of THS II aka HSD with NiMH.

Is Ford using the Toyota hybrid system?
Although the Ford hybrid system is very similar to Toyota's, Toyota is not directly supplying any components to Ford. Toyota and Ford have entered into a licensing agreement allowing Ford to use technology that had been patented by Toyota. Toyota welcomes the introduction of the Escape hybrid and Ford's effort to demonstrate and gain acceptance of this important environmental technology.

To make it clear. I don't believe in fuel cell technology, but they claim they can swap in a small diesel engine instead.

Now a green diesel plug-in electric hybrid under 50k that would be REALLY cool
