    Ford Prices Hybrid Above Regular Model

    DETROIT (Reuters) - Ford Motor Co.'s new Escape Hybrid sport utility vehicle, with an electric motor to help its engine wring twice as many miles from a gallon of gasoline, will cost at least $3,300 more than a standard Escape SUV, the automaker said on Monday.

    The base model of the 2005 Escape Hybrid, which gets an estimated 35 to 40 miles per gallon and goes on sale this summer, will be $26,970, or $28,595 for the model equipped with four-wheel drive.....

    Just for kicks, have they said anything about electric motors for all wheels in the 4WD configuration?...

    no surprise that it's more money, the general consensus as well as official statements from the news and car companies are that hybrids will add $2500-$3500 to the cost of a car.

    in a way, toyota was smart with the prius. because there is no non-hybrid model, nobody can just point and say 'is the extra $$(whatever amount) for the hybrid version really worth it

    Excellent point! It will be interesting to see what happens when folks start comparing the plain vanilla Escape and Highlander models with their hybrid counterparts..
