Force a Readable Error Code in Prius 2005

Unplug your MAF sensor attempt to start the car two or three times or whatever get the check engine light to come on now scan the car You should have a code for the MAF sensor not communicating bad reading something along with another thing or two probably plug it back up restart the car check to see if the code is still current clear it see that it doesn't come back and there you go

 

The question usually isn't "can this code reader read codes?" but "which ECUs in the car can this reader read codes from?".

Engine codes aren't often a problem; cars with engines are very common and pretty much all code readers will be able to read those codes.

It's more likely to be several of the other systems in a Prius that some generic reader won't be able to read codes from. (Surprisingly, Prius brake codes seem to be a challenge for a lot of generic readers, never mind how common cars with brakes are.)

So the real project for the OP is to go through the codes from the 12 to 14 different systems in the gen 2 Prius, and for each of those systems, pick a code that looks easy enough to trigger (there usually is one), and do that, and see which ones the reader is able to see.
