Can anyone recommend a floor jack for the Prius? Is a low profile Jack needed? Also, where under the car should the Jack be placed when Jacking either front or back? Thanks
I own a Sears Craftsman Aluminum floor jack. It's pricey, but it's lightweight enough to hang on the wall. A similar jack is for sale at Costco and Sam's for a lot less. Jacking points are mentioned in the owner's manual. Don't forget your jack stands! Jacks are lifting devices, not holding devices! Jack stands are very cheap, so buy them, and use them. Nate
The jack must have a lifting range starting at less than 6 inches. I have this jack from Sears Craftsman that has 5 3/4 inch to 20 inch lift range: http://www.sears.com/sr/javasr/product.do?...pid=00950148000 It is on sale during May for $100.00 and comes with 2 stands. I put this jack under the frame even with the center of gravity, and can lift the entire side all at once. Saves a lot of time doing tire rotations.
FWIW, you can also just drive the car up on some wood. That gives you the clearence you need. (assuming you aren't buying a jack, if you are, might as well get a low profile one)
