So 1.5 months after buying our Prime, I have just seen the first Prime on the road that wasn't a reflection of me. I know they are out there, but it is always amusing how hard it is to notice new cars in the sea of vehicles on the road. This vehicle passed me and then I passed them when traffic shifted, they started driving right behind me. It was sort of cool seeing them there.

Do you all often see other Primes on the road?
How often did you think you saw one only to be disappointed that it was only a G4 Standard Prius?

You must have missed us cruising around Nashua last weekend :D. Of course we were mostly up for a drive to Merrimack to the outlets so we didn't spend a lot of time around Nashua as we normally would when we cruise by BJs and such.

If only that was the reason. We needed a Corelle outlet to replace a couple broken plates in our dinning set, and there was no way I was going near Foxboro on game day. So it was Merrimack or nothing because Wrentham requires a trip past Foxboro (or at least very close to it). And while I like driving, going to Kittery just seems crazy for a couple plates.

Not only haven't I seen another Prime, but I've only seen a couple of Gen 4 Prii. Maybe I'm not looking hard enough.

So did you give them the "secret Prius Prime" wave...and did they give it back to you?

Yea 40% off 8 items at the outlet, 40% off 12 items online. Minimum $5 shipping until you spend over $100, and we only needed 8 items. Cost me about $2.50 in gas plus 70 miles of wear, well worth it (we ended up with 10 after we found something at the outlet they don't carry online anymore). Each item $4.50 before the 40% off. We would have had to buy more to make online purchase save us money, and then it isn't really saving me money, just changing where the money is spent. Besides - what kind of adventure is it to let the mailman do all the work? BORING :D

I'm impressed that you thought this out ahead of time, but depreciation from miles is probably around 20 cents a mile, not to mention the opportunity cost of your time.

Clearly your Significant other should have sent you to work instead ;-)

Opportunity cost is sort of meaningless on a weekend when I would have just gone home and watched an old episode of Star Trek or something until the football game came on. And depreciation is sort of a fudge number, my cars depreciate more from age than the mileage I put on them. I tend to drive about 7500 to 8500 miles a year, and I do not get back the $0.20 per mile in trade-in value due to the lower mileage versus average. For instance my truck has 36k miles on it, it is 11 years old, it was purchased for $28k it is worth $8k. If you took raw mileage depreciation there, it is over $.50 per mile. So for me adding extra miles means I get more of the value I purchased the car for.

This wouldn't work for everyone though, a lot of people the extra miles take away value if they decide to trade.

But again, where is the fun man :D. The only part I precalculated was the savings for the plates, not for the drive up there, we drive up to the outlets on a regular enough basis for other shopping that it really isn't that special, 35 miles each way, that is less than some of you all commute each day for work. Also it is good to take a nice long drive once in a while, gets the fluids really moving in a car, all these short trips aren't good.

Wasn't that the guess of the NH resident who first started this kidding session ?

Haven't seen another yet. I keep looking for Kevin54, who lives a few miles north of Trenton where I work, but no sightings yet.

I haven't seen one in the wild yet. Not even test drivers at the nearby Toyota dealer. (that may be just bad timing on my part, though)

I'm just now beginning to see Gen 4s pop up - I'm in a very liberal college town with tons of Gen 3s. Now I probably see about 5-10 Gen 4s a week. Have yet to see a Prime!
