I've had my PiP a month now. When ave temps were in the 30's EV range read 12.4 and I usually got an extra mile on my drives. With warming temps I was getting a read of 12.8 lately and 13.0 for the first time this morning. Thats with daytime temps of 60 but overnight it was still just upper 30's.

You PiP drivers from warmer locales - what can I expect in summer ? Is this about it or do you do even better ? Funny how an extra 2/10 made me happy :)

That question is far more complicated to answer than you ever imagined, still fulfilling to learn about though.

The fact that Prius PHV is a plug-in hybrid means some plug-supplied electricity will also get used for HV driving, not just EV. Seeing blended miles like that make interpreting the improvement associated with warming weather extremely difficult to quantify. Fortunately, you will notice the change, but getting detail from everyday observations is quite a challenge.

The transition from Winter to Spring to Summer is something I was fortunate to document last year. Looking at my daily driving graph, you can see the EV miles were all over the place.

There most definitely is not any pattern whatsoever. Electrical resistance & capacity improve with warm temperatures. I've seen my continuous EV-miles distance (actual not estimated) nearly double from 9 in the depths of Winter to a high of 17 on the nicest Summer morning commute .

Seasonal change is part of the ownership experience. MPG improve & degrade for Prius even without a plug. It because a refreshing reset every year, especially even when low the efficiency is still quite a bit better than traditional vehicles. Having a plug enhances that. You find it even more rewarding.

depending on the type of driving you do, you might see range estimates up to 15 or so and actual between 14 and 17.

Warmer weather does increase my EV miles because I don't use the heated seats anymore. The battery also seem to hold a little more charge or go a little further. Perhaps the tire pressure raised by a few psi due to the temp. Perhaps a combination of all.

Keep in mind that EV range is the estimated value. It is a bookkeeping system that tries to separate EV and HV miles and approximate the range you'll get in pure EV mode. The way you drive and how and when you blend the two power sources may vary, thus affecting the bookkeeping/accounting of EV miles.

201 MPG this morning, with 0.4 miles of EV remaining from my usual work commute (just under 17 miles with half at 70 mph).

The fact that it was 20 degrees warmer than it's been in months made a huge difference.

    Hooray for spring!

thanks all - 13.1 mid day after a new record 13.0 this morning - woo hoo !

I know EV range is the estimate.
I don't really use any HV miles - 2 trips to Boston skewed things but I'm at 1,100 miles now on 2 gallons

My weekday driving, for most weeks, is entirely in EV. My displayed estimate reached a low of about 12.8 miles in Jan-Feb and is now at 14.1.

thanks Mike thats what I was looking for and hoping for this summer
with more free charge stations popping up in NE its actually not too important, just make me feel good starting up to see 13+

I bought my PiP in November and now that warmer weather is here, 4 out of my last five fillups have exceeded 400 miles and exceeded 50 MPG. I took a picture today showing the relatively flat winter months. Looking forward to even beter MPG as the summer comes!

I've managed to push the PiP up to 19.4 as of this morning. Since I can get anywhere between 20 - 21.5 EV miles each morning, the estimate is still creeping upwards slowly. This picture is from Monday morning.

What really matters is that you're getting some kick-a$$ gas mileage. :D

Wow that's crazy. My estimate today was 17.1 km but I'm getting more actual range. Do you have a lot of slower steady driving?

It's fun to watch how Entune changes as a result...

It's about 15 miles of freeway at 60 mph and 5 miles of street. Except for some minor hills and one big grade it's a 1% downhill grade all the way. Not steep enough to coast, but enough to stretch the range quite a bit.

What is your range difference going the opposite way?

My commute is ~6 miles. It is ~150 ft elevation drop.
Going to work it takes ~4 miles of range (I've seen as low as 3.5 and as high as 4.5, no heat).
Returning it takes 6-8 miles of range. Almost twice the energy just to climb up 150 ft over 6 miles.

My employer has no charging stations and there are none nearby. I even searched the entire 9 levels of the parking garage for an outlet, and there is only one. That one is in a space inaccessible to my car ... even with a 100-foot 12-AWG extension cord.

On the way back I average 54 mpg. My usual MPG for the round trip is around 95, but my record is 105.

We are experiencing a "heat wave" in Silicon Valley. Mid 80's to lower 90's. I've yet to see this EV increase people talk about.

You won't. That only applies to real winter, freezing & mild temps.
