I was hoping you fine people of PruisChat could give me your thoughts on this potential purchase.
I'm digging it because of the trim level, lumbar seats are important to me because of injuries I've sustained.

I've checked out the VIN and the thing is that it had an accident in 2015 (~15k) with another car, driver's left side, vehicle functional, estimated damage exceeds $1k, airbags did not deploy.

It was then sold in 2016 to the second owner at a Toyota dealership and has since been driven to its current mileage (100k).

Aside from this accident, the car has been regulary serviced and appears to be in solid condition. Haven't gone out to test drive yet.

    VIN: JTDKN3DU5D5622997

From personal experience, I'd say a side impact 85K miles ago that did not deploy airbags and left the car functional at that time is nothing to worry about, as long as the repairs were done properly. Here's my story Got T-boned today | PriusChat

I don’t think the accident will have any impact on the drive ability of the car at this point.

Things I would look at is the service history and be aware that you are comming up on major maintaince such as spark plugs, egr cleaning, coolant flush

I'd agree with @Pluggo : as long as the repairs were well done, shouldn't be a problem. I'd suggest to try opening/closing doors on both sides, see if the driver's side doors close easily. Also look the paint over carefully, see that it's uniform, looks good, well blended. And check with the doors open, any obvious overspray or whatever. Check front and rear wheel wells, and the rocker panels, for missing fasteners, patch ups, whatever.

Thanks a lot for the feedback! Just heard back from the owner, I'm going to look at the car on Thursday. What do you guys think about the price btw? Asking is $10,995. Based on service records doesn't look like the car had its 100k service done yet.

check the tires for even wear. remember that there is a discount for lost value. no one pays book for a car that's had an accident

I think the price is "ok" but a bit high based on the mileage. I would offer less (don't be shy!). I wouldn't care about the past accident and that should not be a factor in the price either as long as the title wasn't salvaged or rebuilt. Be sure to ask about that title.
I purchased a salvage titled 2015 2 years ago with 24k miles for $9000...haven't had a minutes trouble with it. The one thing I would check for if possible is signs of wetness under the carpet, seats, trunk area. Or a strange smell inside the car. Sometimes they can't repair doors/windows well enough to avoid small leaks during rain.
I base my opinion of the price on the fact that I daily search up and down the east coast states on craigslist for used cars (mostly prius) because about once a year or so I will buy and resell a car and make a few bucks.
If you're happy with the car and the price, I say go for it....these are great cars!

Looks like a sweet ride. Have a mechanic that is familiar with hybrids check it out before you pull the trigger. That $150 for a reputable mechanics time can go a long way. (y)

It appears from the photos that the vehicle is trim level V and has the somewhat rare adaptive cruise control (technology package), which I personally think is a must have and works great. When you compare prices or Blue Book, make sure you are doing apples to apples. The vehicle you are looking at is decked out top of the line.

I just wanted to report back. I saw the car today. Turns out though it was listed as a private owner on CL, the guy was a dealer. He bought the car at auction. He was strong-arming me from the get-go. He was hysterical and wanted me to agree on a price even before I test drove. He said if I was going to try and talk him down from the asking price that he didn't want to do the test drive. He insisted that he was only going to make a $200 profit on the car so he couldn't go down in price! I didn't agree to this of course.
I tried to check the battery longevity with the Dr. Prius app but the owner wasn't comfortable with me depressing the gas and brake simultaneously (with the parking brake on!) as is required for the test. He said he would depress the pedals and I acquiesced. Unfortunately, he wasn't following instructions so the test didn't work. The test drive seemed okay to me and the battery didn't lose charge after acceleration. But the car has cosmetic damage, dirty interior, broken glove box, missing car mats and possibly one non-working fob. The owner said he wasn't sure if it worked and he didn't have it on hand. The remote mechanic that I booked to do a pre-purchase inspection indicated that the brakes and rotors need to be replaced.
Overall, I wasn't vibing off the car so much, the asking price is too high and I hated the owner's high-pressure sales tactics. I am going to see what else is out there. I see that there is 2012 Prius 3 with the Solar Roof package at a dealer not far from me so hopefully, I can look at that car this weekend!

I would not buy from a car dealer who advertises as a private party. That is demonstrably dishonest and dealers are more expert at covering up serious problems with a vehicle than we purchasers are at accurately assessing the condition of a vehicle. I would pass.

You did the right thing. You did the research, asked the right questions and listened to your gut. Kudos to you, bro. Plenty of wild Prii's to see.

Uh, agree but what is difference between a wild Prius and a tame one? Compared to the high power Atkinson cycle engines developed in WWII for aircraft, I think all the Prius Atkinson ICEs would look tame, but I am likely misconstruing the reference.
Is your image the Flying Spaghetti Monster or some other (wild or tame) entity?

I couldn't find any verbage to confirm your claim. The closest thing I found was this bad Ash William Henry Isaac Atkinson. Atkinson was an Ace fighter pilot in WW2. 250px-William_H_I_Atkinson1.jpg

Wild as in needing to be caught.

Shiver me timbers! Indeed it is the FSM. I am a practicing pastafarian. Bucko.

Well dang, I cannot find that reference again right now, so I will cancel that statement until I can find the original article. Nuts. My recall is that the A engine fitted to a bomber would have increased fuel efficiency that would then increase the effective range of the aircraft . But now I will have to dog down the reference to see if I’m correct or not.
