What octane gas are you really putting in your car
When you pull in for gas , I am wondering the distance between the nozzle you put in your tank and the underground valve that connects the proper underground reservoir, according the octane you choose.
Playing with calculators here is what I observe.
For the purpose of the discussion the pipe is 1 inch inner diameter. So the previous fill up was 87 octane you choose to fill up with 91 octane.
It turns out that the first gallon pumped in your car will be 87 octane even if you choose 91.if these condition are met
1- distance between nozzle and switching valve is 25 feet and piping is one inch inner diametre.
Does someone know the specifics of switching octane at the pump ( piping diameter, the switching octane valve distance. etc

A recent Toyota questionaire
This AM got a 10 page online questionnaire from Toyota about what features I'd be interested in and which I'd be willing to pay $10-$25 a month for. Included were ride sharing, would I be interested in fuel cell, hybrid, electric, etc.
Most of the features were ones Tesla already has at no charge.
They didn't ask me how old I was, what I made or when I would buy my next car.mikefocke Nov 19, 2022 Prius, Hybrid, EV and Alt-Fuel News Read More Views: 1,252 Likes: 1 Replies: 14 -

Hydrogen HUB's coming
"Clean hydrogen hubs will create networks of hydrogen producers, consumers, and local connective infrastructure to accelerate the use of hydrogen as a clean energy carrier that can deliver or store tremendous amounts of energy.
The production, processing, delivery, storage, and end-use of clean hydrogen, including innovative uses in the industrial sector, are crucial to DOE’s strategy for achieving President Biden’s goal of a 100 percent clean electrical grid by 2035 and net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
Hydrogen energy has the power to slash emissions from multiple carbon-intensive sectors and open a world of economic opportunity to clean energy businesses and workers across the country. Getting hydrogen right would mean unlocking a new source of clean, dispatchable power, and a new method of energy storage. It would mean another pathway for decarbonizing heavy industry and transportation."

BEEP - Battery Evaluation and Early Prediction
Toyota Research Institute and d3batt program are seeking help with determining battery life based on multiple cycles with different variables. From the web site:“BEEP enables parsing and handling of electrochemical battery cycling data via data objects reflecting cycling run data, experimental protocols, featurization, and modeling of cycle life with machine learning.”

Edmunds Test BZ4X Real World Range
According to Edmonds:
TESTED: 2023 Toyota bZ4X Falls Short of Range Estimate | Edmunds
Recent tests of bz4x in Norway are confirming the same data, namely that the range and efficiency are not holding up to what Toyota is estimating. Usually, auto manufacturers prefer to slightly under promise & over deliver. In this instance, missing range/efficiency marks doesn't reflect that philosophy.
Coming up 15 miles short of estimates on an ev that doesn't have significant range may be an issue to new ev buyers hoping to drive more economically. -

2023 Audi Q8 E-Tron Debut: New Name, More Range
Although with an EPA rating of 222 miles for the current e-tron SUV, it's a lot of miles to squeeze out of the extra 19 kWh in the new battery to get a 300 miles EPA. 30% increase will place it at 288 miles. PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Stephanie Terrell bought a used Nissan Leaf this fall and was excited to join the wave of drivers adopting electric vehicles to save on gas money and reduce her carbon footprint.
But Terrell quickly encountered a bump in the road on her journey to clean driving: As a renter, she doesn’t have a private garage where she can power up overnight, and the public charging stations near her are often in use, with long wait times. On a recent day, the 23-year-old nearly ran out of power on the freeway because a public charging station she was counting on was busy.
“It was really scary and I was really worried I wasn’t going to make it, but luckily I made it here. Now I have to wait a couple hours to even use it because I can’t go any further,” she said while waiting at...Georgina Rudkus Nov 5, 2022 Prius, Hybrid, EV and Alt-Fuel News Read More Views: 4,428 Likes: 0 Replies: 50 -
Apparently Gas Cars use Electricity too
Whoda thunk it. Well every PriusChatter here obviously.
Gas Cars Consume Much More Electricity Than People May Realize
I figure if "@Tideland Prius" can stoke discussion about EV versus Gas I'll sling some thought porn on it too.
So a German magazine "has calculated that, for every mile traveled in a legacy vehicle, you’re using about half as much electricity as you would to travel a mile in a pure EV." Most of that electricity is what is known as grey energy, energy embedded in a product, like that used by gas stations and the like. They therefore speculated that an EV would use that same electricity in a more efficient fashion. -
