Conditions best for Eco, Normal and Power mode
I am new to hybrids, I have my Prius Prime Premium for 3 weeks now. It seems to me there are advantages of using each mode in different conditions but I read some saying they are always in Eco. For instance I live in a hilly area,if I'm doing 30 mph up a hill, Eco mode is struggling unless I happen to be in EV. Even in Eco EV the coach is telling me to crawl up the hill. Can someone explain this? -

Consumer Reports: The Most Fuel-Efficient Cars
Source: The Most Fuel-Efficient Cars - Consumer Reports
Fuel economy is an important factor to consider when buying a new car, even when gas prices are down. History has shown that they won't stay that way forever. Many conventional cars today offer impressive fuel economy, especially in contrast to what you may be trading in. Further, alternative powertrains offer an increasing array of choices, with diesels, electrics, and hybrids each carrying appeal for different drivers.
Measuring fuel economy is among our more than 50 tests we conduct on each car we purchase. Our fuel economy numbers are derived from a precision flow meter and are rounded to the nearest mile per gallon (mpg).
CR's overall mileage is calculated from equal portions of city and highway driving.
Below, we spotlight the top most fuel-efficient cars based on the overall fuel economy test...bwilson4web Mar 10, 2017 Prius, Hybrid, EV and Alt-Fuel News Read More Views: 5,846 Likes: 2 Replies: 54 -

2016 Electric Drive Sales Summary/CA/USA
Hey I know what you are all asking:
Isn't it time for the California New Car Dealers Assoc. to publish 4th Quarter and YTD 2016 car sales results?
Yes of course:
http://www.cncda.org/CMS/Pubs/CA%20Auto%20Outlook%204Q%202016.pdf
Here's my Tally for 2016:
Hybrids 2016
Total Sold: 384,417
California: 98,763
% in CA: 25.7%
PHEV 2016
Total Sold: 72,935
California: 33,226
% in CA: 45.6%
BEV 2016
Total Sold: 84,246
California: 40,347
% in CA: 47.9%
Note: CA is about 11% of US population, so anything over 11% in CA is a higher concentration there
So these are interesting numbers, but showing some greater penetration of Hybrid and PHEV sales outside of CA. At one point, CA was up to 30% of hybrids, I thought maybe headed for 35% in CA, and 65% of PHEV were in CA at one point. BEV has... -
41 MPG from a Ford Fiesta or Focus 1.0
If the "clean diesel" is not for you, there's always the option of a Ford with 1.0 liter gasoline engine:
About $16,000 for the Fiesta 1.0
- And $18,000 for the Focus 1.0 with hybrid-style stop/start system
They get 40 and 41 mpg on the EPA highway test, and they cost $6000 to 8000 less than a base Prius or Civic Hybrid. LINK: 2015 Ford Focus SE 1.0L EcoBoost Sedan Test – Review – Car and DriverTroy Heagy Feb 25, 2017 Prius, Hybrid, EV and Alt-Fuel News Read More Views: 1,484 Likes: 0 Replies: 13 -

Big Corn and Big Oil Team Up Against EVs
Source: Big Corn and Big Oil Team Up to Fight EVs
“[We] think we should be working to promote the longevity of the internal combustion engine,” Chet Thompson, president of American Fuel and Petrochemical Manufacturers (AFPM), said during his presentation this week.
Both groups feel that the electric-car industry is getting too much support, relative to what they receive. Thompson used the word “inequities.”
So much for EV and plug-in tax credits.

Porsche Panamera Plug-In
Well maybe we'll get another year+ long thread about: 2018 Porsche Panamera E-Hybrid review with price, power and photo gallery
Using a hybrid system directly related to the 918, Porsche’s green luxury sedan delivers a total of 462 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque from a 100-kW electric motor backing a turbocharged 2.9-liter V6 gas engine. The V6 is responsible for 330 hp and 331 lb-ft of torque, while the electric motor contributes 136 hp and 295 lb-ft; the result is sprints from 0-60 mph in just 4.4 seconds. U.S. fuel-economy ratings aren’t in yet, but the Panamera E-Hybrid gets the equivalent of 96 mpg on the Euro cycle when its EV capabilities are factored in.
The “E-Hybrid” moniker curiously masks the fact this is a plug-in hybrid: 31 miles of pure electric range, at up to 86...bwilson4web Feb 21, 2017 Prius, Hybrid, EV and Alt-Fuel News Read More Views: 1,321 Likes: 0 Replies: 8 -
