Fair price for a new hybrid battery at the dealership?

How many miles on it? The hybrid battery's acting up how? There's warning lights? Have you had it checked for codes, and if so: could you post them?

That's probably a number you can get at any dealership, with a little dickering. Probably best to get them to put it in, saves the hassle of shipping, core charge, and likely means a 3 year warranty, vs one if you DIY. AND, no finger pointing if there's "issues".

I'd suspect install would be around $800, but purely a guess.

I think the OP was looking for the Toyota installed price.

I'm in the same situation. I got quotes from within 100 miles.

In my small home town in S. NM, the toyota dealership quoted $2830 for the battery + $454 for the installation, plus tax.

In the city of El Paso TX, I was surprised to be quoted $4380 and $4126 by two dealerships (I thought it would be cheaper there!). So definitely look around. An industrial town like El Paso is likely to have other businesses that can install a replacement battery.

In my case I was fortunate because my 2006 (167,000mi) can't be driven very far. The battery failed one day (without displaying any codes), and was hardly functioning the next.

Bisco, I have not finally decided because I find myself in the dilemma of having a car I can't drive OR sell without a large expenditure (which happens to be approximately equal to the KBB car value).

I don't want to ditch the Prius II because I bought it new, it has been economical and trouble-free and wears near-new tires, the SO likes to drive it and I don't want to take a total loss.

I might be able to sell the car for $1000+ more than the average KBB value if advertised "with new hybrid battery". So I think the best option is to have a Toyota-warrantied (1yr) battery installed by the local dealer. This way, SO can continue to drive it, we amortize some of the new battery's cost, and we can later hope to sell it for an acceptable sum.

The local Toyota dealership's price for the battery seems high, but the installation cost low, the package about par. (After reading a lot of posts here, I am not considering any DIY options or 3rd party batteries.)

One lesson learned: I bought a 2015 Prius vee 5 last year: I will sell it at about 150,000 mi, before the hybrid battery dies!

(PS: I just found a Toyota shop in Albuquerque (200mi) that will sell me the battery for $1989 (installed for $2669), which would make all the math look better, if I can find a way of taking advantage of it.)

 

$2669 is a good deal on a NEW hybrid battery from Toyota. One of the lowest prices around.

 

that is a good price, only $119. more than texas hybrid battery.
