    In some what happier diesel news, the US might get a diesel F150.

    "Diesel-powered F-150 test trucks have been spotted running around Ford’s product development center in Dearborn, Mich.
    ...
    Ford spokesman Mike Levine declined to comment on Ford’s future products, but Dave Sullivan, an analyst for consulting firm AutoPacific, says Ford’s product plans call for a diesel-powered F-150 teamed with a new 10-speed automatic transmission co-developed by Ford and General Motors. It could launch as a 2017 model, he says." - Ford, aiming for pickup fuel economy crown, preps diesel-powered F-150

    The likely engine is a 3L V6 that is being used in the Range Rover.

    I tough that all US trucks were diesel? Oh well... shouldn't diesel be superior to gas in heavy duty vehicles, esp when towing bigger trailers?

    I like it, a 10 speed 3.0 diesel with an aluminum bed, the range rover get's 29mpg's, an F150 getting 30mpg's(ish) would be good, presently I have the ram 3.0 diesel and it's nice, 2-3 mpg more is a 10% improvement, yes.
    My F150 3.5gas got below 20mpg, I like the off road choice on the "hud", the ram has air suspension, love it when "trailering" or in mud,

    arescec, tractor trailers are diesel, but most pickup trucks (light duty) are gas, hardly any automobiles are diesel here,

    The 2500 class pick ups/vans and up have a diesel option, but these are big engines of 5 to 6 or more liters. They can tow and haul some of the largest loads without requiring a commercial drivers license.

    They are also a size class higher than the 1500 class trucks and personal cars. So they have less stringent emissions. Window stickers with tested fuel economy aren't even required on them.

    Until the Ram 1500 with a 3L came to market 3 years ago, we haven't had a 'small' truck with a diesel since the early '80s. The small CHevyColorado(Tacoma size) and its GMC twin came out with a 4 cylinder diesel last year.

    Most F150s are used as cars, never smudging the paint with a cargo. Pickups used as trucks usually have a higher rating, and are already available with diesels as options.
